he said that it was written at sixteen in an interview. as we were all sixteen once, we all can attest to the fact that sixteen year olds can be a little over dramatic. i picture the situation being this: it is after his first real heartbreak, and he is scared. he doesn't want it to happen again, and really who can blame him? my first major heartbreak happened at sixteen, and i remember saying i would never get involved in all of that ever again, and i think that it is commonplace for the teenage years in general. those times are full of firsts, and everyone gets scared and worried. sure some of the lines are quite lovely, but by no means does all of this mean that it is too profound for a sixteen year old to write. |

| Explosions in the Sky – The Only Moment We Were Alone Lyrics

for me, the song is about wanting to be with someone, and when you are there is that surge of emotion. the panic, the passion, the anxiety, the happiness. this song is absolutely beautiful. i got the album right after it came out, but until recently i just kind of skipped over this track. i think that explosions in the sky makes lovely music to begin with, but this song... i just find it to be so raw, and just so full of emotion. i think that a lot of music these days gets caught up in the lyrics, and sometimes the music takes a backseat, and as such most of the emotion comes from the words and not the beat. but this song demonstrates the mood of what it is about so wonderfully i think that if it had words it might not be as great as it is. |

i saw him preform this song last night. i had seen him play it before, but last night before he started he walked up to the microphone and said 'this song is about someone who was just too beautiful to stay on with us earth.' it really set the tone, and it was quite sad. |

it was said that john wrote this song about paul in response to the songs on ram that he interperetted to be about him ('dear boy,' 'the backseat of my car' and 'too many people'). later john said that it wasn't really about paul, and that he was really just attacking himself. |
