XDanny, this song was originally done by Men at Work, Hay's hit band from the 1980's. The original is very popish and 80s sounding. I loved the song even then, but IMHO, the acoustic is better. You can see the video at http://youtube.com/watch?v=Gj82THGfPuQ Claire16, there might be others, but Hay wrote the song "Waiting for my Real Life to Begin" which was sung at the end of season two. According to Wikipedia, there's a bunch more. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrubs_%28TV_series%29 |

I'm not sure you can divorce this song from Kearney's overall Christian theme. It's allegorical, but "castles made of sand," the refrain, the call to repentance are all good examples of Christian imagery. See Matthew 7:26 for example. I think to make this a love song kind of misses Kearney's deeper meaning. I think Janie has it exactly right. From a Christian perspective, it's two beautiful examples of how we only come to God broken to say "I can't do this on my own, I need You to help me." |

| I don't know if this helps, but "holy kiss" is found throughout the Pauline letters in the New testament. Also, the idea of a "holy kiss" is an ancient custom in the liturgical Christian world (Roman, Anglican, Easter, etc). It can still be seen in the Eucharist as the Passing of the Peace in the Roman and Anglican world (not sure about Orthodox). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_kiss | |
