this is such an amazing song, i wish i knew exactly what it's about..i'm thinking it might be about the salem witch trials? "Seventy-four. Seventy-five. He's getting used to it now, how each one falls away in that hoary light.", could be an observer of the burnt witches counting all of the deaths they've seen. "such a waste, where every angel looks dead, every face a lie.", could be the narrator's lack in faith, since everyone is lying and accusing everyone else. i might totally, completely, absolutely be wrong. it's just a guess! |

| also, i think that there's a tranformation in the relationship that shows through the song. in the beginning, she thinks of him as "so changeable" like her "coat". the lyric "there's nowhere to go but on", which shows her thinking about staying with him and going on with the relationship changes to "there's nowhere to go", which obviously shows her feeling trapped. this is also marked by the running footsteps at the end of the song, which could be her, trying to run away. | |

| anal sex? bullocks. this song reminds me alot of a fling. it's the "dirtiest clean" because she's dating the person, but all they do is see eachother at night. "loveable lamb" means that she's drawn to him, she thinks he's supercute. "shed some light on me please" could be a plea to him to see her during the day, or see her with decent intentions. "what day, what phase" could be a pregnancy scare. "there's nowhere to go" means that she feels trapped in the relationship. i think the only reason i'm drawing these conclusions is because this song completely encompasses a relationship i'm in right now. wow. | |

| i think "walking with a ghost" signifies a relationship where one of the partners is never really there. "you're out of my mind" shows that the partner that IS there is trying to move on. SmittyTheBlasphemer might have a point. i interpreted the song as a person who is heartbroken from past relationships, and is caused to "leap into someone's arms" in an attempt to move on, but is also doing so because he is intoxicated "Where I had hidden myself somewhere in your charm Our golden handshake has been smashed into this shape." he is drawn to her by her charm, and despite the fact that they've just met they "take magic to a primitive new place" which might be an illusion to sex. "It looked as if I picked your name out of a hat" they wouldn't be together under normal circumstances; she's just a random girl that he chooses to be with for one night "That’s when we grab a hold Of whatever it is we fell into" he hasn't fallen in love, but is just trying to excape the pain of past relationships. that's what i got from it, but probably because that's my situation too |

when they say "it's love that breaks the seal of always thinking you would be real happy and healthy, strong and calm" they mean that being in love opens up the risk of getting your heart broken, thus being "sad and broken down". i'm kindof in the same situation as "How do you live so happily while I am sad and broken down", right now. |
