She's definitely NOT a lesbian...she has said herself that she writes songs from the point of view of all different viewpoints. There is even a quote by her that says many people assume she is a lesbian because she writes songs from different points of view.. In any case, I think this is just a song of loss, not of any particular person or place, maybe just an era or place in time. |

I agree with Digi-G, this song and Lady Madonna are a few of my favorites by The Beatles. I admit, I'm not a huge Yoko Ono fan. Some little part of me still blames her for breaking up The Beatles, but the rational part of me knows that John loved her, so she couldn't have been a terrible person. I admire what she stood for with John as peace activists. This song is just what it says...The Ballad of John and Yoko, that tells of their marriage and life afterwards. The part of the song that says "The newspapers said, say what’re you doing in bed, I said we’re only trying to get us some peace." refers to when they had their "Bed-In", when John and Yoko sat in bed, and as somethingliketreclo said, talked about politics and peace....look up Bed-In on wikipedia for more information. |

I think this song is about purity, and the difficulty of searching for it. She does sign "While you stare at your boots", but she does that on purpose, to make you think she's going to say 'boobs'. If you've ever listen to her perform it live, sometimes you'll see her laugh as the audience realizes that she's about to say 'boots' and not 'boobs'. :-) |
