"I want to stamp on the face of every young policeman
To break the fingers of every old judge
To cut off the feet of every ballerina"
Maybe he's being ironic, by presenting himself as the racist tabloids etc see him and showing it to be ridiculous. |

| At the Drive-In – Pattern Against User Lyrics

"Waiting for nothing" Well, that's regular drug use, not necesarily even addiction. I know these guys were all on heroin and fuck knows what, but I find a lot of these lyrics are applicable to habitual weed use. You're waiting for nothing, your brain's so full of fucked up and half formed ideas.
The circus carny guarding the gates of heaven - I think that's a reference to stoner's delusion, thinking that people like them who dress like freaks matter, and believing in trippy bullshit that doesn't mean anything.
And then there's "Poking fun at the living". I interpret this as the drug users thinking that law abiding non druggies "the living" are suckers, poking fun at them - while at the same time, they are the ones who are really living, the stoners etc are living in their own bullshit world and achieving nothing.
Also, I'm not trying to have a dig at drug users, and I'm not talking out of my arse, I gave up weed for more or less those reasons. This song sounds like someone who is sick of drugs. |

| The Mars Volta – Take The Veil Cerpin Taxt Lyrics
| 16 years ago

It would actually make a lot of sense if this was the beggining of the story... if son et lumiere begins after cerpin takes the overdose, maybe this song could serve as an explanation of why he did it ("forsaken deprived and wrought with fear") perhaps this is relevant to how julio felt after ben rodriguez tormented him. The epic musical climax of this song certainly shows a powerful emotion, perhaps one strong enough to drive cerpin/julio to suicide? idk im just making this up but it seems to make sense.
You know what doesn't make sense? "A mass of gallon sloth, as flies have walls for feet" I dont have a clue what that's supposed to mean. I guess the rest of this song you could have a crack at interpreting, but that? I dont get it. |

Has anyone noticed that the character of the music is similar at the beggining and end of the album? Son Et Lumiere both have that short, abrupt sound where the whole band strike a chord in unison, and the same happens at the end of Take The Veil... whereas the character of the music for the core of the album is more flowing - for exaple Drunkship of the Lanterns. Plus the bit at the end of Roulette Dares and the start of Tira Me A Las Aranas is trippy as fuck lol. |

the first verse means something to me, it's how i feel when i get really depressed because of the assholes at school. "frozen in the place i hide" it's a mental place, where i can deny that i value their opinions, when really my bad brain chemicals are crushing my self esteem. i'm not emo. i like grunge music and csny. i wear cowboy boots and a pink shirt. who cares? |

| The Suicide Machines – War Profiteering Is Killing Us All Lyrics

i agree that only a half wit would vote for gw, and that the war in iraq has left the world in the shitter, but... killing us all? they have an admirable sentiment, but it seems that writing good lyrics and selling records just isn't their forte. their only good song is the vans song, and even that kinda sucked lyrically |
