(sry, this is corrected & all... I couldnt even read the post I made above.) I think that the whole God perspective is 100% valid thats probably wat Jon intended this song to be about. But because im not christian, I do tend to find other meanings to Swichfoot songs. so from a diffrent point of veiw, This song, to me, is about someone who was "at the top of the food chain" (or somewere around there) and who lived their life being something they really wearnt. people like that reolise that thats not who they are & they cannot live that way. so they let go of all that. hence, "They say I’ve lost it " & "I gave it all away and I lost who I am I threw it all away with everything to gain And I’m taking the leap with dreams of shrinking " in this case, shrinking means loosing social stats & that kinda stuff. this person wants to lose it all. "What could I know when I’m but a mockery? I'm so alone " this is the person reolising that now everyone looks down to him/her. this is said sarcasticaly. the person dosent acctualy care wat they say. people are mocking this person & this should make him/her feel alone but this person has good friends and isnt. "sooner or later" meaning that this transaction will happen at some point. I find I can really relate to this. I love switchfoot, their SO amazing, their lyrics are genius & they deserve all the praise they get. |

I absolutly love this song. "A heart that's made of gold can't really beat at all" When a person says that some one has a heart of gold its because that person is really nice or generous or something. But I think that Jon Is saying that no one can be perfect; no one can completly devote themselves to others. Again, as others have said, "You have one life left to leave" meaning that you have one life & you should be who you want to be, but yet be carefull because its the only one you have. They seem to be full of songs like this. Specificaly "This Is Your Life" I really like the part that goes "Life begins at the intersection" Its really motivating. I think I have made an important choice already & its only after youve made the decision that you know if it was the right choice. I know I made the right one & this song reminds me that I did a good thing & that there will be other opertunities just like that later on. |

I agree with Icas, I know that this may or may not be the real meaning of this song but to me it definitely about having someone who means so much to you and who is so special. To me personaly, this song reminds me of a friend of mind. She's verry important to me and to me, she is the person described in this song. |
