I think it's important to note the comma separating "We lost faith" and "in the arms of love" I honestly believe it's an expression of losing that religious faith. Ben is questioning, basically, 'Where are you god, while the world burns?' His frustration is remedied with the "We lost faith, in the arms of love" line. Losing faith in a superior being meant finding faith in humanity, in love that is reciprocated and emphatic. I think it's a beautiful expression of atheism. I could be wrong. But it's a wonderful song nonetheless. |

| hmmm, maybe 'see the animal in the cage' is a reference to Kafka's Hunger Artist. but i'm not aware of Trent's reading collecton so it's just a hypothesis. | |

| I think what Trent is asking us is to think about the symmetry of our lives. He points it out in "if you look at your reflection, is it all you want to be?" We strive to be the best possible person we can be; but in all our efforts, we are compelled to compromise certain realities and truths about ourselves. In our efforts to color within the borders of our ambitions, we forget sometimes what matters - our individuality, our creative spirit, our autonomy from under the audience's control. We lose, sometimes, what is entirely genuine. Irrevocably. | |
