AH! For ages I thought it was "Take these wings, stow them safe away". Rings makes more sense, but my my, I feel like a fool. At least now if I write a song I can use the wings bit and it'll be a totally original idea! YEAH! |

i thought it was some crap about death etc but yes it's definitely to do with Guillen's murder - it makes everything in the song make sense.
The dirt pile imagery is death, cremation, graves etc
vanish with no guile - "guile" is craftiness i think; and she was just taken by some twat and brutally murdered and dumped in a bin i think? No craftiness there, that's for sure
etc etc what a lovely brilliantly sublime orchestra of depression and meaning |

I met Rhys at O2 wireless and asked him if this song actually meant anything and he said it sort of does but sort of doesn't. He said it was just a sentence he wrote down once and thought it was quite cool then it sort of turned into meaning just going out with a girl. |

on the acoustic album luke says he doesn't really know what this songs about and he supposes it's just about getting abused. But it seems pretty obvious to me that it's about katie melua. |

sorry but no way are good shoes trying to be like arctic monkeys. they're very original. this song is sort of different from all their others actually. the other ones are definitely nothing like arctic monkeys. Alex Turner's lyrics are just mundane working class things but in a nutshell you can tell by listening to the album that Rhys Jones is frustrated about the unromantic mundane life he has been living and wants to do something. Perhaps better summed up in All In My Head. |

i totally well heart this song. it's about wanting to do something with your life and the petty limitations that are there but don't actually mean anything but are enough to stop you doing what you want. |

I think it's about losing your virginity and the nervousness beforehand. The lack of lyrics sort of helps it 'cause it's so sort of blunt. |

I think this song's about loss in general. Breakup. Also I think it's partly about the death of his Dad. "How do you do it angels". suggests a death maybe?
"Why must life take away every good thing one at a time?" Reference to death of his Father then his Step-Father a few years later and possibly girlfriends. It's that feeling of fate conspiring to make him miserable.
There's a strong sense of yearning in this song.
Really powerful. |

if you read interviews with the kooks they always hint at their love of old music, old ways of recording and vintage sounds and things. I think this one's sort of a nostalgia thing. Complaining that we can see the world on the tv instead of actually experiencing it. And he wishes the person he's addressing could empathise with that. |
