I think the song is about how he realises he needs to keep living life even though she's gone (break up, moved away, died, etc.)
The first part is about him being sad and depressed that she left, and he's losing days and years just being sad about something he can't change.
Then, the end is about him realizing he needs to keep going, "it was fun while it lasted" means he thought it was fun, but he needs to keep having fun, with or without her. |

I love how in the begining of the song, it says "So why must you shit where you eat?"
Then, the whole song is basically leading up the to
"Fuck you and your job, And I'll shit where I want".
