| Big Black – Dead Billy Lyrics

i wonder if anyone will see this...
i believe this is about war and america's fascination with it, you know, that blind jingoism some of us prance around with. and as far as big black songs go, many are about people fucking up themselves, or others. so, the last line references vietnam, commonly referred to as a "pointless war". dead billy is the american draftee who died for his country and the little girl is, well, just a little girl. in a us dress. innocent and ignorant, doing just what she's told, and told not to think. good, docile citizens. anyway, i believe the real "meat" of this is where it says: "Dead Billy put your hand in his hole", this is a direct reference to jesus christ who had doubting thomas put his hand into the hole made by the spear of loginus. thus, billy, christ, the unknown soldier, all died for those who sent them to their deaths, and those who sent them believed tha that was penance. that they were forgiven for their inhumane crimes.
anyhoo, that's just this one's opinion |

| Patti Smith – Free Money Lyrics

I agree with kanhanzzon, she wants the money to buy her loved one a better life but they don't have that money, all they have is the dream. And dreaming is free, the lottery she always wins is the comfort of sleep. It's alost as if she wishes she could take the loved one to her dreams, just desperation and desire. Speaking of, it kinda reminds me of Piss Factory where she says she has nothing to hide save desire and talks of rising up from the lower class shithole that she finds (or the song's character) finds herself in and realizing all their dreams.
There's a reason she's Punk Rock's Poet Lauriet. |

During the Salem Witch Trials, 20 people were wrongly accused and executed as witches (19 women and 1 man). But this song goes beyond the SWT's, and seems to speak of, and knock, profiling and all irrational accusations. By the way, has anyone heard of the West Memphis Three? If you like this song, you'll like that (present day) case. |

hmm... heroine sounds right, but, am I the only one who hears: "You had nine lives and one by one YOU'D SHOOT 'EM UP" you know as a reference the the drug of course. And interestingly, I've always thought of the "final coffin nail" as a metaphor for the hypodermic needle. But, yes, I agree: Matt Skiba is a Genius. |

This totally goes hand in hand with System of a Down's B.Y.O.B. It's about how the war (and consequential "spread" of deocracy) are like a big party, romanticising the sectarian violence, and nameing George Bush as the "clown in the flight suit" (as he is occasionally seen in a flight suit). The comparison arises as BYOB is about the army being portrayed as a Frat Party. *Sigh* |

Well, I can say for myself that I'm tired of the "emo-tag", to me it's really a label; not something constructive, but a limit. But that aside, I've heard the Blood Brothers called Art Punk, or Experimental, and as being part of the No Wave movement. This particular movement in music had many a focus, but one of them was criticism of the "tired" mainstream. Hence, the "experimental", it's breaking-away. Avant Guard! |

Hello! does anyone else think that the first part begins with the word "azucar" instead of "like sugar"? It would make sense actually because for those who don't know azucar is the spanish word for sugar. |

Ok, know that I haven't read through all 3 pages, but I want to throw this out there: To me, in addition to the already-described sex and drug references, it seems to have a bit of a Riot Grrrl feel, you know, a feminist message. Saying that guys are pigs, and girls can manipulate their weakness (libido) and completely screw them over. |

| Norma Jean – Songs Sound Much Sadder Lyrics

I agree with the more religious explanations, granted that they are christian metalcore. But I just wantd to throw in a less religious meaning: Perhaps it is speaking of the constant rise in technology, the sapping of the world's resources, the use of children and scientific research (not that kids are literally being used, but there is a certain, metaphoric, crucifixtion of children nowadays) is ultimately going to cause us our downfall. And the line "fatal habit of being myself" refers to mankind's reckless self-improvment, not taking into account long-term consequences, "there's hope..." could refer to humans giving up the ghost that we aren't god. I suppose this is similar to the System of a Down song: Science. To quote: "Science has failed to recognize the single-most important element of human existance: letting the reins go, to the unfolding is faith, faith, faith." Yes, it is religious, but I only said it was LESS religious. Just my 2 cents! |

Can't stop listening to this song!
Ok, well I think that the title is metaphoric for the lovers' relationship. Combining what xedajx and starsgoblue said, as the relationship ends, there isn't any finality, hence: "our love will never end"; this is just like what Jesus said of Lazarus and how he is only sleeping, that there isn't finality in death. His life being representative of their love. Also, I agree with said explanation for "shark people": predators are predators are predators. |

My favorite song of all time! A trio love song like that of "We can never break up", but less morbid (but no less great) than skiba's "Deathbed" or "Fatally Yours". Actually, it is like "Clavical". |

Sweet! This song is the first on the Warp Tour Compilation. I love it because it has an old school trio feel, with matt's morbid talk of hell (poetry), but also exemplifies how they have matured as artists, note the solo played behing the intro. Gotta gotta love it! |

Yep, I agree, it seems like od'ing on heroine as "coffin nail" could be metaphoric for the syringe and needle, the"nine lives" referring to the drug slowly poisoning their system. And as for "bed and breakfast in a spoon" "bed and breakfast" connotes accomodation or comfort, whereas a spoon is typically use by a heroine use to melt the solid heroine, also known as a "cooker".
Long live the Trio. |

Hmm... I got 2 cents. One being that he song is of the disillusionment of city life. This is because, and I know I'm getting ahead but, a few songs by Albarn's (2D) newest band: The Good, The Bad and The Queen, such as Kingdom of Doom or Herculean, are about city life and gloom. Great band, definitly check them out! Oh, and two is, speaking of Brixton, there is an awsome song by the Clash called Guns of Brixton, once again, just 2 cents ;p |

To correct The Obsessor, like half of songs written by The Misfits' Glenn Danzig are about cult horror and sci-fi flicks... and they're pretty much awesome. Just thought you'd know. |

This may be a bit late, but to correct "The Obsessor" on the line: "I'm sorry, but nobody's gonna write a song about a scary movie.", if you have ever listened to The Misfits, half the songs are about cult horror and sci-fi flicks. Just thought you'd know. |

Hmm, well "pigs" has been used to criticize people who promote our competitive consumerist society (capitalist pigs), perhaps the "you"s and "they"s are directed towards that society. And the "I love the pain/I love this hurting feels like love to me" is sarcastic, as in he is spitting in their faces because they can try, but they can't hurt him or keep him down. Also, I know this is later on, but in Beautiful People, there is the line "Capitalism, has made it this way...". |
