Manic Street Preachers – Judge Yr'self Lyrics 18 years ago
I used to wonder, way back, before I could even decipher a lot of the ret of the lyrics if the birghtst sun bit was asome kind of reference to nuclear weaponry. Probably not, but I thought I'd contribute the idea, if only for you all to get some laffs at my idiotic teenage self...

Manic Street Preachers – Donkeys Lyrics 18 years ago
i'm possibl wondering if this isn't closer in content to some of the Manics more political leanings. Donkeys as unskiled labour, perhaps? The notion of working your days away, before trying to drink the night away solely to find some solace, unsure as to the point of existance...that's what I see, anyway.

Manic Street Preachers – Socialist Serenade Lyrics 18 years ago
There's another version, somewhere, that has a longer bit on the end, specifically attacking several New Labour figures [can't rememeber all of them as I've never actualy heard it, jsut read it on another site] - Robin Cook was one, and Prescott might have been another.

To my mind, the song is more about NL's reversal of previous Labourite stances; the chorus, to me, may be ironic, a quibble, essentially, over a language issue. The despair of 'I can't see the past, anywhere' to me indicated that feeling that the party is now divorced from it's roots and unrecogniseable to it's former members.

Idlewild – You Held The World In Your Arms Lyrics 18 years ago
This is deffo a song about loss, AND youth passing you by.
My strongest memeory of this song revovles around my mates' funeral - he was only 17, and this was played as all his old schoolmates walked ito the crematorium. The theme of loss and lost youth was quite appropraite, obviously - to us, this was what had happened, and what might yet happen. Even today, I sometimes think 'my god, it's been so long!'. I might be retromapping it onto the song, but I sometimes wonder if it's not specifically about a death of a friend while you're at at a young age, or a breakup endured in youth.
