Lenny Kravitz – God Save Us All Lyrics 18 years ago
uhm, Krishnamurti is not God I think and in this song Lenny expresses a frustration. Why isn't the world improving while attempts have been made in the past? Maybe we can try again! But then again we need a teacher, who will teach us? And again an outcry to God... maybe if we really try...

I think personally it is in vain but we got to keep striving. But we must expect all things from God. Do what we can, and God will do the rest.

Daniel Bedingfield – Honest Questions Lyrics 18 years ago
There is a definate reference to Isaiah, a book in the bible:

"For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses."
God in Isaiah 44:3-4

And the part about "And streams will flow from the dust of
Your bruised and broken soul" refers to something Jesus said:

“If you are thirsty, come to me and drink!
Have faith in me, and you will have life-giving water flowing from deep inside you, just as the Scriptures say.”
Jesus in John 7:37-38

I think it's definitely a prayer to God because Daniel is an outspoken Christian. He openly shares his faith during concerts and occasionally in his songs. (source: http://www.answers.com/topic/daniel-bedingfield?cat=entertainment)

The song is honest, heartfelt, struggling with problems, identity and sin (doing things wrong) deepening towards the end:

"Oh look down and see the tears I've cried
The lives I've lived
The deaths I've died
You died them too
And all for me"

Like he's saying: God take a look at me, the problems I'm facing, how many times I died in the process... and then realizing God was there all along with him. Helping him, carrying him. But above all dying out of love for him on the cross, for his sins. "you died them too... and all for me!" And you say:

"I have come in order that you might have life—life in all its fullness." (john 10:10)

So there you have it:life in all its fullness, growth, healing of brokenness. :)

Sufjan Stevens – Concerning the UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois Lyrics 18 years ago
I love analogies, so we know this story is based from the perspective of the witnesses in Lebanon. Let's compare those in these lyrics with the shepherds in the field when Jesus was born.

The witnesses saw lights and heard sirens. The shepherds saw an angel while bathing in his light. Then there were many angels singing (slight reference to sirens (mythology))

"History involved itself" God intervened with history by coming to this world. A shade that took its form. In the bible when shade is mentioned it is a foreshadowing of things to come. It is Jesus who is mentioned and referenced to in prophecies and actions, rules, laws.
For example in Sufjans song Abraham, when Abraham had to sacrifice his son Isaac, God provided a ram to replace him. This was a foreshadowing of God providing Jesus as a replacing sacrifice for our sins.
