| @[CandyFlip:33226] I have a feeling "involuntary dilation" is regarding eyes. Our pupils dilate involuntarily when we are attracted to someone (also with fear and surprise but given the context I'd say it's the attraction) | |
| Missy Higgins – The river Lyrics | 7 years ago |
|
I used to think it was pretty straight up...a young girl with lots of problems at home, quite likely abused walking into an actual river to die at age 10. Then my interpretation of Katie changed....and I've always kind of linked the two mentally so, hear me out.... I think it's about 2 different views of the same event. But the river is a drug. The addiction is what takes her away. The reason she's 10? maybe that's when her abuse started and perhaps she felt like she never really advanced beyond that. Katie talks about her being a little girl and for some abuse victims or victims of early childhood trauma, they feel like part of them will always stay that way, trapped in that trauma especially when they were robbed of being able to grow up and mature in a normal way. So there you have it, "she found a little bit of something she used to drown" being drowning her sorrows, the pain, memories etc. Also the possibility of running away from home at a young age and as a result finding the drug quite young? |

Part of me wonders if this is about not just a relationship but taking the leap to marriage, hence the bridge analogy because divorce to them (despite how it is portrayed among a lot of society these days) is so much bigger than just an end of a relationship. The use of the word "explore" instead of any word with negative connotations towards the act leads one to think of an element of regret, albeit bitter-sweet, towards the possible premature loss of opportunity for new experiences. The fact they have a male and female singing different parts also leads me to think that maybe there is something significant in this, maybe it's not just one person's feelings, but both and they fell so hard for eachother that they can't help how they feel and feel disempowered by their feelings and it leads them to be having these doubts and yet powerless to do anything about it |

| The Strokes – Heart In A Cage Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I've listened to the song a few times and it seems to be about a relationship failing or that has failed because of fear of commitment from being hurt before. Seems like the person can't trust and as a result keeps their heart away no matter how much they say they want otherwise, despite the other trying to convince them they're not like that. Possibly both parties have been hurt by relationships before but they have difficulty opening up, but one is clinging tighter and restricting the other based on their fears "I'm stuck in a city but I belong in a field." Not wanting to be with someone or let them in for fear of their "fire" being stolen, who they are, their happiness etc. | |

| I very much agree with Brofine on the affiliation to "the ruling class", though unknowing of the story the explanation makes perfect sense, especially as they have a song called Jack the Ripper.....wow..... | |
| My Chemical Romance – Thank You For The Venom Lyrics | 18 years ago |

ok, just signed up so ive only had a chance to read the first page and a bit of comments so if this has already been said, then sorry for the repeat. i did an assignment on my chemical romance a couple of weeks ago and while doing research i came across a particularly interesting interview where the topic of my chemical romance often being labelled as emo is touched apon. http://www.last.fm/music/My+Chemical+Romance/+wiki "I wouldn't front the scene if you paid me" in my opnion (by no means necessarily right) it seems like the song is about the emo scene/emo music scene and people trying to get them to fall under it or represent it, but they want to keep doing what theyre doing now. in the interview it says that they dont want anything to do with emo(which is regarded as popular, "in" or mainstream mostly these days) because emo didnt want to know about them when they were starting out. "It ain't the mark or the scar that makes you one" in the song parts are also there to reflect the band's (or at least gerard's) opinion on suicide/depression etc. so i agree that it is about going mainstream/emo and no so much poking fun at emo but saying that they dont want to represent something that comes across as how emo is portrayed by many bands with the whole bleeding/romantic death (in a bad way) thing. anyway i hope that insight helped a little xox sin |
