Have you ever been close friends with a guy and then he starts making the move to turn it into a relationship? The only problem is, you don't feel the same way. He's not your type, you're not interested, etc. What do you tell him? You make stuff up about how your not compatible, or how you don't want to be in a committed relationship, how you're a free spirit and you just can't be tied down, and how even if he were to win you over, you'd be gone soon anyways. That's what this sounds like to me. haha because I've said stuff like that before. |

Wow someone doesn't know what a tape deck is. I'm an older generation now. This is weird. Sarcastic, bitter, angry, severe. I'm guessing that when he originally broke the tape deck, there was no blame or fight about it, she forgave him and maybe he said it wasn't his fault and she bought it. But now the truth comes out! haha. Holding onto things in silence, they always come out during the break ups, eh? |

Bravo Charlie is actually part of the phonetic alphabet. Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo... etc. BC? I don't know what that refers to but I doubt the song title has anything to do with the song itself. The title I have is Like Father, Like Daughter (Bravo Charlie). I suppose it could be a parental relationship but it sounds like she moved in with a guy and things aren't going as well as planned. |

Wow. I loved this song at first. "What a candid look at the accomplishments of childhood!" Then he gets to the part about business and inventing, and I'm thinking oh it's a look at growing up. Then he starts grilling people and stuff. It seems so light-hearted and all of the sudden he's Hitler, cooking up Jews and it just is out of control. In my opinion, this song is in fact a look at the human condition. America, for example, breeds great people. People who can create and invent and do so many good things. We have terrific athletes, we have amazing business men and inventors. We also have a powerful military, one that I am proud to say I am a part of (Go Navy!). However, in our power to heal and build and overcome problems, we also have the power to kill, destroy, and overcome nations. Our individualistic society teaches our children to think for themselves and take care of only themselves. Teamwork is something that we learn in sports and in the military, but other than that, "I do me" is our motto. Ability and talent is great. It can be so powerful, make great change, but if it is selfish, it only can bring disaster. In Reformed Theology, this tendency towards evil is known as Total Depravity. People inherently do bad things. Some people might be less bad than others, but no one is really truly good. |

Regardless of what it actually means, I have found great inspiration in the "I must go on standing" portion of this song. I muct go on standing (I have to keep pressing on, I cannot give in to the desire for companionship) You cant break that which isn't yours (His heart isn't mine to do as I please, and I need to not pursue it.) I must go on standing I'm not my own, it's not my choice (My heart isn't my own either, so my desires really have nothing to do with what is actually important in reality.) |
