god, i loooove this song. it's meaning is blurry but it doesnt matter because it has so much emotion. in the lyrics i feel like it says: "Everybody else, looks at my baby Then they wanna know her name" instead of "then they wandered over to me" from my point of view, i see it as one girl who is totally infatuated with this other mysterious, beautiful girl when she sees her walking home alone. not infatuated like love, just obsession and wanting. but the first girl knows that the mysterious baby is not hers, that she belongs to someone else and that she wont ever get to truly know her. but the baby is 'like lighting', once shes struck, the girl wont ever be the same. i think the song embodies awe, beauty and maybe even a hint of jealousy for someone you really want but will never have or be. this song is so inspiring to me, im writing a short story based on it's lyrics. gah, i love mazzy and i dream of hope's voice. |

I LOVE this song! After he sings "my body is a..." and then the massive burst of the organ! I blast it in my car, that part gives me absolute chills. Stephenie Meyer, author if the Twilight series says she was inspried some by Arcade Fire. Has anyone read this series? After I found out she listened to them, I couldnt help but feel like she took some inspiration from this song. It synches with the book very well. It's a fucking AMAZING song. |

I love love love this song. I can listen to it over and over. It's fucking gorgeous. And I pick up on everyone saying it's about a long-distance relationship. I agree, but does anyone think perhaps it's about a breakup? He talks about the pages of him in her autobiography, they are "brief and to the point"...maybe like she's trying to forget about him in a way. I guess the rest of the song doesn't really match up but... Eh, I dunno. Im thinking it's about a long distance relationship, or simply being away from someone you love very much even for a short while. The emotion of missing somebody can be so strong... amazing song. |
