ohms got the other part of it in the link. The extended version, which is nearly impossible to find is amazing. I didn't think i could get better. It doesn't run on but instead ends it with a guitar riff and the strings section are stronger. It's amazing. If anyone can find the version on album let me know. When Vedder plays it in Better Man... wow, just wow...! Funny thing was both songs were my favorite before I heard them in the medley. It's not ruined, nor does one out do the other. It's just different and powerful. Gotta have a listen. |

I guess I always think differently then everyone. Yes, there are innuendos but I never thought too much of them, I thought it was just humor put in. The song's mood gave me such a different feeling. Sarcastic, nostalgic, trying to pull through times. I looked for an answer and interviews and I found this, no idea how correct it is... English Beat singer/guitarist Dave Wakeling says of this song: "I wrote it when I was a teenager. I wrote it before The Beat (outside of the US, the group is known as The Beat) started. And it was about turning from a teenager to someone in their 20s, and realizing that the effortless promise for your teenage years was not necessarily going to show that life was so simple as you started to grow up. So it was about being lost, about not really knowing your role in the world, trying to find your place in the world. So, you couldn't find your own way in the world, and you'd have all sorts of people telling you this, that, and the other, and advising you, and it didn't actually seem like they knew any better. So it was like keep your advice to yourself. Save it - for later." http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=10987 That link also gives light a on a few other things about The Beat. |

This is possible my favorite song of all time (tied with a few beatles songs though, I don't have a top favorite). I was rasied on this band, their first album was my childhood. I can't believe I JUST found out the was orignally done with split Enz and was a single and everything. I'm just so shocked since I felt like no one knew that song or anything. I knew of SE, but years ago (like ten years ago) when I searched for a song meaning, video or a live version... I never came across the SE version. Anyways... But from reading, it has to be about the end of Split Enz like stated before. |
