Tone is one of the many ways to express how characters or real people feel, and one's tone isn't always compatible to their age. Palmer is just showing how the crush was very childish. Nothing would have ever happened between them, and she shouldn't have had any hope, but she was still hurt when she finally realized that it was futile. |
