As to the "yellow eye", there is the expression "the world looks yellow to a jaundiced eye" meaning that everything is negative for someone who looks for negativity |

| Snow Patrol – Set the Fire to the Third Bar Lyrics

People keep asking what bar means in the song... I think there're two seperate ones, a bit of word play. The first bar is an actual bar, like a pub. And the third bar... would be the third setting on an electric fire. Since some/most/all (I'm not sure) of the band is Irish, and 'put the volume up a few bars' or something like that would be like saying turn it up... |

This song confuses me a good bit. The first bit I get, it's those final lines about "taking a knife to the books that I own and chopping and chopping and boiling soup from stone." Given the many different things Regina draws her imagery from, I thought this might link to the Stone Soup folktale, where a traveller promises to make an old woman stone soup, and fools her by convincing her to add different vegetables until it does INDEED make a soup.
... I'm convinced that's it but ... I have no idea how it links... |

I have no idea why people are all OMG TEH GHEY when they hear this. It seems you can't be vaguely indie or even rock these days without having a gay song on your album somewhere. The Killers have Andy, You're a Star, Snow Patrol have How To Be Dead, FF have their Michael. And one or two others, if you look hard enough.
It's worth noting there's another version of this wandering around online, going back and forth between both Andy and a girl, FIGHTING over Michael. While Michael is freakin' brilliant, that version is better. |
