I think this song is about innocence or more, the loss of innocence. When you are a young child, you dont feel restricted or insignificant. You dream about what you want and there's never the thought that "I cant do this" or "its impossible". Anything is possible when you are still innocent. You dont feel the smallness under the stars. But then you lose your innocence and you get 'bars on your cradle' and all the responsibilities and restrictions that come with it. You can see all the impossibilities. Now all he can do is write his music as like a letter to the outside, while trapped in this world. He wishes that he could really be the type of person his child would see him as. Little children dont see the bad in people. To a child, his/her dad is a hero, the most perfect, wonderful, kindest person in the world. He wants to be really that good and so the Lord can see it. He speaks about how all the beauty in this world is in the Lord and how death, the death of his inner child (the loss of his innocence) has made him an artist. Most of Tuomas's songs somehow tie in with this theme of the loss of innocence and its partly because of this loss he has now become an artist. He also talks about his own heaven that he's created. I think he's talking about his world of music, Nightwish, being a songwriter, the world he's created because music and writing songs sounds like its the most important thing in his life and its his passion (his heaven) however he longs for the real heaven in the end, God's one, not the one he created. He says similar things in numerous other songs about being uncontent in his "false" heaven that he's created on earth and only wanting the real one, where he can be truely happy and innocent again, and good. For example: "He (Tuomas) stopped crying at the end of each beautiful day. The music he wrote had too long been without silence. He was found naked and dead, With a smile in his face, a pen and 1000 pages of erased text." "Heaven today is but a way To a place I once called home Heart of a child..." Hope that helps :) |

| Nightwish – The Poet And The Pendulum Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think by rape he just means being taken advantage of and used. Its a figurative meaning. In slaying the dreamer he says something similar: "You bastards tainted my tool Raped my words, played me a fool" he is just talking about how people violate his words and try to destroy who he is. | |
| Nightwish – Cadence of Her Last Breath Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think this song is also about seeing the beauty in someone who maybe cant see it in themselves. To her, she is ugly. but to him she is beautiful. I think this is written from tuomas's persective. The first verse and the chorus he is writing about her (3rd person) and her beauty (breathtaking butterfly) but also her problems. Then in the second verse he is writing about himself(1st person). How he longs for her. He has never met her, but knows she's out there somewhere "Why do I miss someone I never met" "Seawinds brought her to me." The Chorus: A cadence is a music term. It is basically a series of notes that end off a song. If you think of life as a play or a poem/song like tuomas does in his other songs, this will make sense. The cadence ending off the song, and the cadence of her last breath ending off her life. Also with the line "Save one death for me," tuomas writes about wanting to die a specific way. He doesnt want to just die, he wants to be able to choose how he dies. in the poet & the pendulum he says "I just wish the tide would catch me first and give me a death I always longed for". he wants a beautiful death. |

| Nightwish – Bye Bye Beautiful Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I definately think that this song is not about tuomas loving tarja. In another song he says "Why do I miss someone I never met." he writes a lot about one day finding your soul mate. With bye bye beautiful he spoke in an interview about it being about Tarja. He said that he hoped people wouldn't take it in the wrong way. He said it sounds harsh but that wasn't what he intended. He said for him it was more a farewell. If you think about it, its not really that harsh. When he speaks about her he is actually quite nice. "Bye Bye Beautiful" and later in the song he refers to her as the flower that has forsaken the tree. I think he is just basically saying "what happened?", and how did this happen and why? He says he wishes that it didn't have to end this way and after everything they've bin through together now she hates them and he just says goodbye. I think its really sad. I love annette but i miss tarja :( Im just glad that annette didn't sing the chorus because it didn't really have anything to do with her. |

It could be suicide but it could also maybe be someone who has died of old age and left her behind. "time has passed you by" could imply that the person is old and has bin sick and has finally gven up and passed on and left behind their soul mate. It would tie in with their song Memories which is also about someone who has died and left behind their soul mate. The Memories music video shows an old woman walking into an old house where she obviously lived years ago with her husband and when she steps inside she turns into her young self and wonders throughout the house recalling all her old memories o her and her husband when they were young. Very sad! Sniff sniff. :( |

| Evanescence – Breathe No More Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"Oh the little pieces falling, shatter. Shards of me, To sharp to put back together. To small to matter, But big enough to cut me into so many little pieces. If I try to touch her," I think this also means here that her problems don't sound all that bad to other people but to her they are huge. She says that all the peices of her life are too sharp and painfull to put back together and too small to matter to other people, but big and painfull enough to tear her apart. We all have our problems, things that really get us down and they might sound really silly and lame to other people but they are things that really matter to us that others dont understand. |

This might also tie in with Bless The Child and the theory of that song also being about someone who is terminally ill and wants to die and be able to go back in time to bless the child. "Soon to be freed from care and human pain" Black Angel's idea is also a really good one about the child being Jesus and the mother being Virgin Mary. |

| Nightwish – The Siren Lyrics | 18 years ago |

In this song Marco is Odysseyus and Tarja is the Siren. She sings the beginning part describing the siren and saying: "Hearken to the sound of calling". Then Marco sings the rest and says stuff like "who tied my hand to the wheel?" and all while he's singing, Tarja is singing in this luring, seductive voice and saying "come to me". It's pretty cool. |

| Nightwish – Sleeping Sun Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This song is definately about an eclipse although that is obviously the more literal aspect and i presume is a metaphor. I'm not too sure of the figurative meaning here but maybe its about longing for a rest from your life. "The sun is sleeping quietly Once upon a century Wistful oceans calm and red Ardent caresses laid to rest" "I wish for this night-time to last for a life-time" "Oh how I wish to go down with the sun" "I`d sail before a thousand moons Never finding where to go" It maybe ties in with songs like ocean soul. I think in this song he is searching for something or someone. A soul lost at sea and always searching, and maybe he's tired of searching and wants to be able to rest, like the sun during an eclipse. "Sleeping Weeping With you" "I wish for this night-time to last for a life-time" He wishes for this rest to last forever. He wants to find what he's searching for. He wants to find the person who will love him and understand him and see the beauty of his soul? "222 days of light Will be desired by a night" Obviously wanting more nighttime and less daylight. "For wishes I behold my nights" |

| Nightwish – Slaying The Dreamer Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Also, "Gather your precious glitter and leave me be" implies that he hates the people who just use his songs to make money. Precious glitter would be money and when he says leave me be it shows that he doesn't care for the money and they can take it if it is so important to them. He doesnt want it. He wants to spread his message. |

| Nightwish – Slaying The Dreamer Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I agree with Alosel. It's about people who either mock his lyrics cos they dont understand them or use them to make money. they dont appreciate them and twist them. "Drank from my cup, mocked my rhyme" "You bastards tainted my tool Raped my words, played me a fool" It is about people who have used him and hurt him. "Tell me why you took all that was mine!" "You'd be nothing without me" "Your slit tongues licked my aching wounds" It is also makes reference to his other song "Swansong". It uses the word "swansong" in the song and also does mention similar stuff to whats in swansong, about dreaming. In Swansong it says: "In my world, love is for poets Never the famous balcony scene" In Slaying the Dreamer it says: "Dumb kid, living a dream Romantic only on paper" They both refer to real life being very different to the stories or movies or poems... He's angry with people for using him and mocking his lyrics because maybe they are different. People who mock his rhymes and call him a dumb kid living in a dream world. Because of what they have said, they are slaying the dreamer (him) hense the name of the song. |

| Nightwish – Ocean Soul Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I feel the exact same way. I hate shallow people who can't understand the important things in life and like you said, just listen to britney spears. Thats why Nightwish are so amazing. Tuomas can put thoughts and feelings into words like no one else can. It's amazing!!! His lyrics are so deep and they just... I cant even describe it but they like touch your soul or something. I love this song!!!!! Some of the songs I don't even understand but they can still make me feel really sad or touched etc. | |
| Nightwish – Dead Boy's Poem (feat. Sam Hardwick) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"If you read this line, remember not the hand that wrote it Remember only the verse" "Conforting home, mother's lap, chance for immortality" I think that he is also saying that one day when he dies, he doesn't want to be forgotten. He wants to be immortal but that is impossible so instead he has found a way to stay alive through his music and as long as his music lives on, so will he, as he has poured his soul into his song. He wants to spread his message and cant say it in words so he has put it in song. "Sing what you can't say" |
