SoldYourSoul posted: It's "heights don't phase me". Not "eyes closed fac eme"... He is correct, and I left the incorrect version in my post without proof reading it all. I apologize. |

| And to add to my last comment, I have seen the video. Rise Against uses videos that don't always apply fully to the song being played. Just look at Prayer of the Refugee. It obviously is connected, but the video differs from the actual song meaning. | |

Tim said that this song is about being at the top and having nowhere to go but down. Hold on slow down again from the top now and tell me everything I know I've been gone for what seems like forever But I'm here now waiting To convince you that I'm not a ghost or a stranger But closer than you think She said just go on she wants you Pretend its your life but Please don't die on me He's saying he's been gone forever, probably working on moving up, but he has finally came back to "her." He asks her how her life is going, but she is obviously upset he has been gone so long. She tells him "she" wants you. I think that means his ultimate goal, whatever that is. She tells him to go, but don't die getting to the top. Wings wont take me Eyes closed face me So take a step But don't look down take a step Wings won't take him there, so he knows it won't be easy. He starts his journey by just moving forward and not looking down. I'm standing on a rooftop ready to fall (ready to fall) I'm think I'm at the edge now but I could be wrong I'm standing on a rooftop ready to fall He's at the top, but he could fall at any moment. Perpetual motion the image wont focus A blur is all that's seen But here in this moment like the eye of the storm It all came clear to me I found a shoulder to lean on And I thought of a reason to live all by itself I took one last look from the heights that I once loved And then I ran like hell He's now at the top, but the perpetual motion and chaos can't allow him to see the real picture. An eye of a storm is when everything is very calm, but the surrounding area is hectic as the storm moves closer. It doesn't last long, but it can be quite peaceful. He realizes that girl he left for the top is a reason to live life all by itself. He doesn't need the top to make him happy. Infact, it's making him unhappy. He takes one look from the top that he loved, but he runs away from it all because there is something he loves more. I count the times that I've been sorry (I know I know) Now my compassion slowly drowns (I know I know) If there's a time these walls could guard you (I know I know) Then let that time be right now He's apologizing for running out on her again, but it's starting to sound old. Yet, he still pours his heart out in hopes of connecting with this person once again. Does that happen? I guess that's up to your imagination. I could be wrong! My AIM is Dane Unleashed if you feel like talking about it. |

I think it's just about the group of people who stray from the pack and see obvious flaws in the world we're living in. Instead of just following the person infront of us and being content with how everything is, they take strides to really make a change. "To all you people standing proud, thinking you know what I’m about, I think you can fuck yourself" People can sometimes label the people this song represents as just trying to be "trouble makers," or trying too hard to be different. This is to let them all know how serious they are in their stand. "I slipped, I fell, then I lost everything My hope, my faith, in what the future brings In hopes of pushing past the tie that brings us down We sing together now. " It's not easy to choose this path, and there will be times when you do fall and lose your faith, but "we sing together now" and keep the crusade going. That's what I think, anyways. |
