A Perfect Circle – Magdalena Lyrics 15 years ago
Also, interestingly, 'magdalena' means 'muffin' or 'cupcake' in Spanish. So Maynard could totally be on a diet and there's like this cupcake he wants and it's holy and teasing and shit.

...or not.

My point? There's no one meaning to this song. Or any APC song. Personally, I think this is about a girl he loves and respects so much that she's almost holy to him. Hence the biblical references.

Also, Jonathan, Judith is NOT an allusion to Judas. Maynard's mother's name was Judith Marie. The song is essentially to do with his struggle to understand how her religious faith strengthened after she became paralysed. Have you heard Wings for Marie/10,000 Days by Tool? That's about after she died. She was paralysed for 27 years, which is roughly 10,000 days.

Muse – Exogenesis: Symphony Part 2 (Cross-Pollination) Lyrics 16 years ago
Has anyone read the book 'We' by Yevgeny Zamyatin? It's a dystopian novel and was written in 1924 by a Russian author as a statement against communism. It predates 1984 as the first dystopian novel ever written.

Anyway, this whole album basically is the book brought to life. I'm not kidding. Go read it, then listen to this album. The similarities are incredible!

In the book, very simply put, the main character is the engineer and creator of a spaceship designed to travel to other planets and dominate. However, he meets a woman whom he falls in love with and completely changes his views on everything (she's part of a rebellion against the 'One State' government). I don't want to spoil the book, but wow, any Muse fan should READ THIS BOOK!

I love it, and I love Muse.

Paper Route – Dance On Our Graves Lyrics 16 years ago
I just adore this song. There's something about it, about the lyrics, about the music at the end that makes it so damn beautiful.

"When we see the light when we're going home.
We'll dance on our graves with our bodies below.
We'll sing glory and Hallelujah."

Really, I can't even express how much I love this! Such haunting lyrics.

"late and no particular you oh oh oh"

Muse – Fury Lyrics 18 years ago
i think perhaps that the song is talking about war...

the first verse could be talking to the government, and using a sort of sarcasm, like hes mocking the government...

'Your self-loving soothes
And softens the blows you've invented'

the 2nd, 4th and 5th verses could be talking about the soldier getting ready and plunging onto the battlefield and as hes fighting, hes thinking these verses. he knows what hes doing is wrong, and is 'praying' that there is no God to punish him for what hes done. 'Us' could mean soldiers plural.

the 3rd verse could be hes talking to the government again, and that the world is starting to forget the war.

'future soul forgive this mess' could be that hes hoping that the future generations would forgive their ancestors.

'You wait twenty years
And wind up alone, demented' could be saying that the future generations will have advanced in their views of how to solve things, and they havn't forgiven the government to starting the war, therefore the government will end up alone and their views seem demented in the eyes of the future generation.

very good song, love the irony as well

Muse – Time Is Running Out Lyrics 18 years ago
hum i think that it is true that it is about lots of things, and i might as well throw in another idea to this massive idea pool...
religion?
i don't think anyones suggested that yet, sorry if they have,
but it does make at least a bit of sense as the album is called absolution, and absolution is what you get when you get all your sins forgiven...
perhaps Matt is saying that he doesn't know what to believe and the 'you' is God.
'You're something beautiful, a contradiction' (well God is very contradictory)
'I wana play the game' (saying that he would like to believe but he can't?)

i don't know, just thought i'd throw the idea in
Muse rock!
