| Zac Brown Band – Island Song Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
What's to say? It's a song about the joy of being in the "islands", relaxing with friends and having a good time. A great great song, to be sure, and proof that Zac Brown and friends are one of the greatest folk/country acts around. |

| Toby Keith – Beer for My Horses Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
nbluth, go back to listening to soulja boy or whatever other crap you listen to. This song is about the days of "cowboy justice", where if you did wrong, you paid for it. And all of the other criminals and evil-doers would see what the consequences of that were. It laments the thus-named "injustice" you see so often today: Rapists acquitted due to technicalities, terrorists escaping and living to commit more horrific acts, car thieves, robbers, gang members murdering each other(and innocents), etc. It's a call to bring back a brand of that "cowboy justice" that cleaned up streets way back when. It's not racist("gangsters" doesn't automatically mean "black"), it's a plea for a simpler time when if you did wrong, you paid for it. "Whiskey for my men, beer for my horses" is meant as a celebration after justice was so delivered...anyone who thinks otherwise is thinking way to deeply into it. |

| Phish – Scent Of A Mule Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Leave it to Phish to come up with a bluegrass song, played at breakneck speed, about a UFO invasion of the American south, one that's thwarted when the heroine shows them her "southern home"..."and they liked it, they really liked it"! This song is a treat in concert(for those who have not had the privilege of having heard this live, pick up Live Phish 02)...Trey and Mike have what's known as a "Mule Duel" in of all styles Klezmer. Brilliant fun, to say the least. |

| Phish – Poor Heart Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| That's exactly right. What possessed Mr. Gordon to write such a song, no one really knows, but it's great bluegrass fun nonetheless... | |
| Phish – Mike's Song Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
The last part of the lyrics written above is from the 3/1/97 concert, parts of which were released here as "Slip, Stitch and Pass". That particular Mike's Song had teases of The Doors' Peace Frog and The End, as well as Pink Floyd's "Careful with that Axe, Eugene". It's not actually a part of the song. The last bit of lyrics to the song are the final "Me no are no nice guy". Great song, amazing groove, nonetheless. |

| Dishwalla – Miss Emma Peel Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
It's about Miss Emma Peel, played by Diana Rigg on the show "The Avengers", on in the 1960's. She was a spy who worked along side one Sam Steed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Avengers_(TV_series)#1965.E2.80.9368:_With_Emma_Peel_.28Diana_Rigg.29 for all of your nerd-needs... Great song, one of the best on Pet Your Friends! |

| Vertical Horizon – Forever Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This has to be one of VH's most moving, beautiful songs to date... I think the first 2 verses are from the point of view of the dead. The last verse is a bit ambiguous (the line "I don't know if you feel me here/I can tell you one thing is clear, I will feel you..." could be sung by either person. Again, an incredibly moving song in ANY context. |

| 311 – Solar Flare Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
By far the most pissed-off song 311's ever done. Most definitely about our current administration(they mention Baghdad, after all...)...and all politicos, for that matter ("Wanna feed 'em to each other, 'cuz I'm sick of 'em all"). Probably the best song on DTOM, if not one of the best they've ever done. |

| Iron & Wine – Prison on Route 41 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I hear the chorus as Cuz I owe mine to her And I'd rot in that prison for sure If she tossed me aside and not shown me the way to abide ANYway, I think Chombis nailed this one...I always heard the song as the speaker claiming his undying love for the woman who supposedly "saved him" from the life of his family, aka in prison. |

| Steely Dan – Gaslighting Abbie Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is basically about 2 roommates conspiring to convince a 3rd that she's insane. From the term "Gaslighting", a form of psychological abuse meant to make someone distrust their own memory, and also from "Gaslight", a 1944 film based on a London, England film with the name "Murder on Thornton Street". A great song, one that is truely underrated in my opinion. | |
| Jethro Tull – Thick as a Brick (Parts 1 & 2) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| If you really pare it down to the bare essentials, the song is about the illness that pervades society...that ever-present need to 'conform'. It's truly a breakthrough album; instead of the lyrics telling the story, the music does most of the talking; the lyrics carry us through. Excellent excellent album. | |
| Jethro Tull – Heavy Horses Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
It's about the decline of the use of horses in farming and other places, and how the singer wishes to see the return of these once proud animals to work. One of Tull's best, in my opinion, and probably one of my favorite songs, period. |
