Thanks for that post mavs41. I'm glad to see my interpretation was in line with his intent (and not with the Pitchfork interviewer's misinterpretation).
The thing I find funniest on this site (though at times most annoying) is how every other post is something like "man oh man this is EXACTLY where I am with this one chick/dude right now" even though the poster is misreading it completely most of the time. I know a lot of things are (deliberately) open to a range of interpretations and I think that's one of the best things about well-written lyrics, but sometimes a person's interpretation can quite simply be dead wrong. |

It reminds you of the circus because it uses the melody from Julius Fucik's Entry of the Gladiators. If I remember correctly, he was a Czech composer and this was military music. Somehow it got taken up by circuses and now whenever people see anything clumsy or ridiculous they go spouting the melody without even knowing what it's from. I wonder if Gwen even knows. |
