Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Biomusicology Lyrics 17 years ago
I always want to do a hardcore allusion analysis on this song. I already know the TS Eliot reference, and I recently realized that the "We will ne'er be broken-hearted" is a reference to Burns' poem, "A Fond Kiss," which has the line "we had ne'er been broken-hearted."
Gotta love those English majors!

Manu Chao – Me Gustas Tú Lyrics 17 years ago
I only know a bit of Spanish that I learned in eighth grade, so my friend had to point out that "gustas" wasn't grammatical, being the second-person conjugation of a word conjugated only in third-person. However, I wasn't sure if this was regularly used in certain regions or something; if so, does anyone know where?

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Where Have All The Rudeboys Gone Lyrics 18 years ago
Did anyone else think that "Lynvall gave a message to me" was supposed to be a reference to "A Message to You, Rudy"? It would certainly fit with all the other Specials references.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Annunciation Day/Born on Christmas Day Lyrics 18 years ago
"Captive from the start - you can't even find the door."
That reminds me of how with most kids, they are held "captive" in one religion by parents who choose to raise them in that religion.

Cake – Shadow Stabbing Lyrics 18 years ago
Straight_up, that's what I was thinking! However, as for the "cool blade" line, it could refer to someone thumbing through the pages of a newspaper/magazine--think "pen is mightier than the sword." The pages become a blade when their content verbally attacks people.
