| Levellers – Battle Of The Beanfield Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think any collective who is needlessly violent and drives people from their homes, killing innocents without giving reason deserves to have hatred incited towards them. | |

Ddadutta and Skizzy have it pretty dead on in my opinion. I think everyone here can relate to feeling left out and pissed of with society or whatever, and thats basically, from what I can tell, this song is about. "Stood there leaning to the city moon, casting silhouettes tall to grip her white rooms the black-clad voyeur in his black-clad masque in the serpentine sun of tragedy basked" Theres some pretty obscure metaphors in there but "the black clad voyeur in his black clad masque" is definitely a reference to an isolated person. "Stood there cursing at the soul-dead mass with their fabled illusions, the vain dreams that passed splinters of a life rushing by in the whirl a lone, silent warrior in a fantasy world" Have you ever stood in some public room or place and looked around at everyone and thought about how stupid, soulless and delusional they all are, and felt like you were basically on your own amongst those sort of people? Thats definitely what this verse is about. "He cried for night / but night could not come so, swept in the shroud of Misanthropia he went away and fed the empty galleries with the artifacts of the black rain sunken into the shadows with a dry, sardonic smile" He wishes to be alone, away from the crowds and idiocy of his surroundings but has no escape ("he cried for night, but night could not come"), so makes his own route ("swept in the shroud of misanthropia..."), then begins it by presumably damaging the place/people he hates ("fed the empty galeries...") and then carries on his route ("sunk into the shadows..."). "He made the footprints a part of his heart to rouse a sacred confrontation" Despite hating the place he comes from and the people he knows, they're still "part of his heart" and the "sacred confrontation" referred to sounds like trying to make a decision to leave them behind, be it in a literal or metaphorical sense. The escape of the character concerned is probably suicidie considering the references to death in the last verse ("disappears into her cold and icy womb"), but I could be wrong. |

| Amon Amarth – Where Silent Gods Stand Guard Lyrics | 17 years ago |

And what a boring exisance you must lead to copy and paste the same droll, redundant comment on a site where people are interested in discussing lyics. I could just as easily turn around and say "what a judgemental arsehole you are for labelling alternative culture "misfits", how original", couldn't I? Go and do something else with your time, you're obviously seeking conflict by doing what you're doing so anyone that "resorts to violence" in their reaction to you is only doing what you want them to, arent they? Hypocrite. |

| this song gives me fucking goosebumps | |

Hotsoupwoman has it pretty dead on, in my opinion. The many references to "her" and "she" aren't exactly metaphors but the way Haughm uses "the woods grain" ties in with the other songs on the album "I am the Wooden Doors", and how beautifully done it is too. |

| Strapping Young Lad – In The Rainy Season Lyrics | 17 years ago |

The "rape" "kill" and suchnot are more than likely metaphors for screwing someone over or something as Devin likes using words like this in this context (with a notable exception being Rape Song from the chicken feather album). Sounds to me more like a headfuck and wishing you could calm the fuck down or stop thinking about something thats pissed you off and hoping someone would help you, in keeping with the other themes on this album. |

| Fear Factory – Dog Day Sunrise Lyrics | 17 years ago |

This song was originally done by a British industrial punk/metal band called Head of David. They were a bit like the proto-Godflesh who I'm sure FF fans should be familiar with. Either way, great song and great cover. It does indeed seem to be about the shittiness and soul-destroying monotony of modern living, and coming from the same area as HoD I can see where they got their inspiration from for this. |

Correction! is right. Killing Joke did take influence from the likes of TG and Einsturzende, though and if I'm not mistaken they were contemporaries, having both emerged in the late 70s/early 80s. Either way, amazing band and song, Killing Joke rule! |

Grindcore is definitely an offshoot of punk, it would have never existed without it in terms of both attitude and sound. It was hardcore punk took to its natural conclusion in terms of intensity and mixed with metal, hence grind, core - hardcore punk that grinds. Anyways, the meaning of this song is obvious, you can think you're as "alternative", "punk", "metal" or whatever as you like, but if you still act and have the mind of a conformist and moreover right wing fuckhead then you're no better than the oppression than punk/metal/grind etc were a reaction to in the first place. |

| RAMS is the closest, in my opinion. The horses imagery is definitely metaphorical. | |

The use of the phrase "drug me", to me, makes this very obviously NOT about drugs. In Flames lyrics tend to be much more complex than that. I believe it's a love song but not in such a simple way, it could be interpreted differently to "boy meets girl" type love. "Drug me, infiltrate my neverland. Like the floodtide drowning the shore. Drug me, you’re all over me. You watch my blood begin to boil." --------------------------------------- This verse, to me, is Anders addressing the "you negative" in the chorus that he "leaves behind". "I love that lullaby, start me up again Electric spine, open mind" -------------------------------------------- This one is about someone/something entering your life, "electric spine" meaning the tingly feeling you get in your spine whenever something fucking amazing happens, and it "starts you up again" and "opens your mind" to the person/thing. "I leave you negative behind. Watch me all in flames. On a butterfly I ride." ---------------------------------- Coming back to the first verse, leaving the negative things behind and renewing yourself ("watch me all in flames" referring to your old self being left behind) and "on a butterfly I ride" once again describing the awesome feeling you're receiving from the new person/thing. "Inhale the light, relax for some time The world outside stays numb tonight Free your mind, express the forgotten The world inside is yours tonight" ------------------------------------------- This part is basically revelling in the joy that the new person/thing brings you ("inhale the light") and forgetting the outside world and pretty much concentrating on the new person/thing for a while. "Please me, deliver the insane In the chaos I find peace Please me, remind the gods of my name I believe there is one seat left for me." ----------------------------------------------- This one is slightly different from the rest of the song. "In the chaos I find peace" could mean that he enjoys seeing his old life be destroyed/forgotten about, the old "eye of the storm" thing. The "remind the gods of my name..." line I'd imagine is some sort of allusion to not wanting to be left behind by what still means a lot to him from his old life. |

| Immortal – At The Heart Of Winter Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Sounds like somewhat of a Black Metal lovesong to me...but yeah, the kick-in to this song after the atmospheric intro is one of the most energising moments in music, to me. | |
| Killing Joke – Millenium Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Fucking legendary song. Basically seems to be about Armageddon coming and celebrating it because it marks the end of humanity fucking up the planet. | |
