the possibilities of giving up everything you cling to and living in the present moment. peter captures it perfectly (as usual). genius. |

my take: this is about a friend who she'd like to be involved with.
first verse: they flirt around a bit, kind of feeling their way around. i imagine a clumsy crocodile waddling around in the dark and trying to figure out what to make of the "crisp note footprints".
second verse: she feels like she's made a fool of herself by blurting out all kinds of silly things to get his attention, but she still feels like she's falling hard for him...i know pretty much exactly how springing "up in hearts and arrow superhighways" feels. :)
what a great song. fantastic beat, fun melody and really evocative lyrics. very accurately describes the feeling of newness and fun when you first start falling for someone.
i love immi! <3 |

i feel like this song is maybe about meditation and enlightenment. the lyrics are kind of obscure, but if you've meditated at length at all, they make some kind of sense. "black canvas" makes me think of that place of still nothingness that you can find in meditation. good stuff overall. |

whoa, i did NOT think of that at all, but holy cow, now that you mention it, i totally see the parallel. that may be why the song felt so familiar the very first time i heard it... |

terribly misogynistic and not at all chris cornell's usual style and yet...i like it. very catchy, fun to listen to, fun to dance to...and of course, i love his voice! |

i believe i read something from cornell about this song...that it's about how the anti-war sentiment is being crushed beneath this "support the troops" campaign. supporting the toops is well and good, but wouldn't they be better off at home in the first place? the verses are just about the general horrors of war, and what we subject our soldiers to. :( |

hrm, perhaps this has something to do with peak oil and global warming? the extinction of humanity when faced by it's true "master"...the world we're destroying. |
