Rise Against – Give It All Lyrics 18 years ago
Rise Against is probably my favorite band and in comtemplating many of their lyrics, they have an affinity for multiple meanings. Everything I've read seems very valid, however here's my view:

I think this song was written for a very literal purpose, kind of an open letter to fans. In the same vein as "We Are the Champions" by Queen. They're living a life, that while seeming glamorous, relies on the support of fans for success. They thrive on the energy and life exuded by their fans, therefore they "Give It All" and expect the same from them. Mixed in there is a little bit about how it's not easy and they have to work for everything they get, for instance "so please believe your eyes, a sacrifice, is not what we had in our minds" self-explanatory, it's been hard and they have had to sacrifice to get where they are and "so wet my tongue, break into song, through season of competition" is basically saying how they are so many other bands out there fighting for the same fans they are and therefore they "Give it All" to win that battle. "Now there's a reason why I sing", the reason is the fans and seeing them "Give it All" in return.

Just my thoughts...cheers

Rise Against – The Good Left Undone Lyrics 18 years ago
Rise Against is probably my favorite band and this is definitely my favorite album by them. Most of their lyrics tend to have meanings on several fronts and one of them is defintiely in a political and environmental vein. Although the point about a relationship is valid, I tend to think this song is about what we're doing to the Earth and that everyone needs to take part in stopping/correcting it.

Here's my interpretation of some of the lines:

"So I tell myself, tell myself it's wrong. There's a point we pass from which we can't return" - The flower in the first verse is symbolic of the Earth and him uprooting it is essentially killing it. It's wrong and he realizes it but it may be too late already to undo what he's already done but he's going to try.

"All because of you, I haven't slept in so long, when I do I dream of drowning in the ocean." - I take this as referencing global warming and the melting of th polar ice caps flodding the Earth, it's like he's having a nightmare about what's to come if this doesn't change.

"All because of you, I believe in angels, not the kind with wings, no not the kind with halos. The kind that bring you home, when home becomes a strange place, I'll follow your voice. all you have to do it shout it out." - Essentially, we all are the angels, regular people who care, and if we take up and lead the charge, he and others will follow.

Just my thoughts.

Rise Against – Under The Knife Lyrics 18 years ago
Rise Against is probably my favorite band and this is definitely my favorite album by them. Most of their lyrics tend to have meanings on several fronts and one of them is defintiely in a political and environmental vein. This album has huge ties to those topics. Like I said, their songs can be looked at in many ways, such as The Good Left Undone can be viewed as about a relationship or about what we're doing to ruin our planet or not doing to save it. I think this song is directed toward what's going on in the Middle East. He's basically saying it's so bad, just put me under so I don't have to be there for it and when it's over and things are better, wake me up. Like anesthesia for the problems there. Just my thoughts.
