I have to say that I can't agree at all with it being about his fans. For one thing, this song is on the same albums as Reply. In Reply, he thanks us for accepting him. Also, I perceive this as a message to one person who he has personal feelings about. When he says "I didn't think that you'd sell me out", I think it's someone to whom he put much trust in. I think it's about an ex, a friend, or his mom. I would say his dad is ruled out, because in "It's Been Awhile", he says his father did the best he could for him. When he's talking about cutting the nose off his face, I was thinking he was meaning that he feels more out of place than a person walking around without a nose. BUT Here's a stretch for the fun of it.. what if he is talking about his mom, and he has his mom's nose so it stands out to him. Then, if he cut off the nose from his face, he wouldn't look like her? I doubt it VERY much, but it's fun to think about. :) |
