Lacuna Coil – Closer Lyrics 17 years ago
Personally, I interpret it as a faithful (I don't wanna use the word "religious") song. I'm not saying that this is what the song means, but this is just the way I interpret it, and the way I feel when I listen to it. I don't know the band personally so I don't know anything about their faith (if they have one). So I'm not 100% sure about the meanings of their songs. Anyway...

"Want to get closer, in too deep
Where there is something I wish for I’ll go through
Want to get closer into you."
-- The way I interpret it: Wanting to have faith. Want to be closer to God.

"No hell to discover
I’ve got it all inside myself"
-- I think hell is not really a place but a bad state in life - whether we're having a hard time, struggling, committing sins, etc. and for me, "I've got it all inside myself" means we still have the "hell" or the hard times we've been through (sins, struggles, etc) inside ourselves.

"Salvation you have preached is gone
No way, you can’t turn it around"
-- I'm not really sure about this part and honestly it kinda bothers me a bit. But, given more thought, it's like when we commit sins, then have a confession (in which we're "forgiven"), and commit sins again. In reality, yes we are forgiven but we can't really go back and change what we already did.

"Looking for a higher ground
Searching for this something missed before
From a higher ground
Will I fall in a right direction?
(Higher, searching for more)"
-- It's like discovering faith (not religion) for me. "Higher ground" may refer to a miracle, or just something that's life-changing and beautiful.

"Falling apart there’s nothing real
That will convince me to change but I’ll go through
Want to get closer into you"
-- Again, wanting to have faith. We kinda fall apart when we do something wrong and sometimes we just don't know what's real. Personally speaking, I may not change as a person (in our society today; it's hard for me) but I really want to be closer to the Lord.

Again, just my personal opinion.

Fall Out Boy – The Carpal Tunnel of Love Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is kinda hard to understand. I've seen the "misheard lyrics" video of this song on YouTube and it's hilarious. The lyrics of the chorus in the video was like "whoaaaah, isomiserabolastuneeeeeeyeeeuh". And the screaming part was hilarious too. Okay, so I shared some stuff about the vid. Now, about the song - this song is quite catchy (I'm listening to it right now) but I prefer "This Ain't a Scene" and "Thnks fr th Mmrs". It's good to know that they only released this song as a digital single (well, in my opinion).

The Fray – Look After You Lyrics 18 years ago
I'd be perfectly happy if someone would sing this to me. =)

This song is perfect... This is the best love song that I've ever heard.

I've heard the live version of this song and like what j927 said, it had additional lines from another song... "You are so beautiful... To me... You're everything I hoped for... You're everything I need." Simple words, but they make the song sweeter. ^_^

"You've begun to feel like home." - that's the sweetest part of the song.

I really love this song!! The Fray rocks!

Paramore – Misery Business Lyrics 18 years ago
I really, really, REALLY love this song!!! I'm so excited for RIOT!

For me, the singer (I'll refer to her as Hayley) could be talking about a guy that she really likes, but the guy has a "perfect girl" (who has a body like an hourglass) But in the end, she gets the guy... Perhaps "Miss Perfect" becomes a "whore" who tries to look "as innocent as possible" to the guy but he ends up disliking her ("seconds chances don't even matter, people never change" >> perhaps that's what he's thinking)

Then Hayley feels so good coz she got the guy in the end!

"But, God, does it feel so good
Cause I got him where I want him right now"

Most of the time, I can relate to this song >:) Hahahaha...

Lily Allen – Take What You Take Lyrics 18 years ago
(On the previous posts) I agree, this song is kinda straight to the point. The chorus simply screams, "do whatever you want, just be true to yourself!"

But the part "what the fuck do you know" has an angry feel to it - it's like the parents are trying to give her advice, they think they're wiser than her and that she doesn't know a lot of stuff in life coz she's still young. It's an angry way of saying "what? you don't need to tell me what I should do! I already know what you're talking about!"

Regina Spektor – Better Lyrics 18 years ago
I like this song! Hmm... I'm still trying to figure out what this song really means. I think it's about having a best friend and letting them know that you're always there for them - and when they have problems, you're always there to make them feel better. This song has simple lyrics but I think I can give meaning to this one:

"If you never say your name out loud to anyone
They can never ever call you by it"

Maybe the singer is telling her best friend/sister/whatever to "let the world know who you really are" - I'm not really talking about the "name" part, but I think it's supposed to mean something like, "you have to let the world know who you really are; stand out, show them what you're made of, so they would know what you are and that they could treat you the right way." Something like that. ;-)

30 Seconds to Mars – From Yesterday Lyrics 18 years ago
Hi to all! I’m a new user, but I've been an avid visitor to this site since last year. This would be my first comment.

Anyway, I'm a big 30STM fan. This song is one of my favorites. IN MY OPINION, I think the subject matter of this song is a man who was a slave or warrior - or just simply a maltreated person, and then he became a successful person - perhaps a ruler of an unknown army, kingdom, or something... He gains so much success in his life that he becomes selfish.

"He’s a stranger to some
And a vision to none"
-- This could mean that only a few people know and/or care about him, like what other users said. He's just a maltreated warrior/slave and the people just don't give a damn about him.

"He can never get enough,
Get enough of the one"
-- I think "the one" could be a war or something... Maybe he kept on fighting for something until he gets it. OR
-- As a ruler who sent his people to battles/wars, he couldn’t get enough of sending them. He doesn’t care about them or what happens to them.

"For a fortune he'd quit
But it’s hard to admit
How it ends and begins
On his face is a map of the world"
-- Maybe the "fortune" is his goal and he would stop when he gets it. He kept on fighting and he got a lot of wounds & bruises or he had a lot of challenges in his life that it could resemble "a map of the world".

"From yesterday, it’s coming
From yesterday, the fear
From yesterday, it calls him
But he doesn't want to read the message here"
-- He is now a successful leader or ruler and his past as a maltreated person is haunting him. He fears his past and doesn’t want it to happen again. It keeps on ringing in his head but he doesn’t’ want it anymore.
OR
-- He is maltreating his people and makes them suffer. It resembles his past and he remembers how he was maltreated before. They are feeling what he had felt before (pain, suffering, burdens, etc.) and he doesn't care, it’s like having “revenge” on them.

"On a mountain he sits, it’s not of gold but of shit"
-- So, he is enjoying his wealth and success. I'm not really sure if it's "sin" or "shit", like what the others have said before. But "sin" or "shit", it still makes sense. The "sin" or "shit" could represent an achievement/wealth that was accomplished by doing wrong deeds. In the man's case, one of his wrong deeds could be the "revenge" that he's having on his people.

"Through the blood he can look
See the lives that he took
From a count to the one
He'll decide when he's done with the innocent"
-- This one is kind of simple. The blood shows how the innocent people (that he sent to wars) had suffered. Because of him, the lives of the people were lost. But despite this, he is still having two choices in sending these people to battles.

I'm even thinking that the young emperor in the video could be a reincarnation of the man in the song, letting the 30 Secs to Mars guys (representing the innocent lives) fight in a battle and he doesn't care if they die or not. He’s so selfish that he even wants the battle to be a gift for him. Hehehe. That's just my opinion. ;-)

But this song wouldn’t just focus on the man/leader. It could be related to someone who went on a “from rags to riches” phase. He/she becomes superior and he/she gets so attached to his/her wealth and success that he/she becomes bad/selfish that he/she doesn’t care about the world around him/her anymore.

There… just tell me something about this song that I misinterpreted or do not know… Thanks! =)
