I've been under the impression that Jimbo is the character Jimmy from The Pogue's Sally MacLennane. This song fills in the gaps as to what Jimmy was up to when he was away from home. |

Richard and his court of Kings is literally a reference to Dave's Dad, Richard King who passed away when Dave was 9. And I think that the last lines are written from his Mother's perspective. |
