| Depeche Mode – John The Revelator Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I find this song to be a condemnation of anyone who A) claims that they are the only one's with the right idea of God, and B) anyone who uses that God to achieve his own ends. The song seems to specifically target Christianity (although I think it was intended for any religion that claims to be the only truth), probably due to it's dominance in society. | |

The song seems best suited to a relationship between two humans, but I suppose one could also relate it quite easily to the relationship between a man and his God. As was already said, this song was written about his wife, it's about his wholehearted dedication no matter how miserable it makes him, that he would willingly decay with her. If one were to relate this to one's relationship with God, one could see how a man could attempt to be so dedicated to God that he would actively pursue Him regardless of what suffering or misery he may encounter as a result. Becoming so dependant that he dreads the concept that he may ever be distant from God. |

| Avenged Sevenfold – Beast and the Harlot Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
What the song seemed to be talking about at first is the city of Babylon (symbolized in Revelation by the Beast and the Harlot if memory serves me) and it's eventual destruction. Detailing it's sinful and destructive nature. However, at the end, while maintaining the concept that Babylon will be destroyed, they also acknowledge that you're either a servant "above" or a ruler "below." Basically their message is, it may be self-destructive, I might die for it, but it's great fun. The song is essentially about throwing off God and restraint and not being hindered by a belief in hell, being a ruler even though it kills you. |
