| Darkest Hour – Transcendence Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Again, another straight-forward song from their newest album. It talks about how most of us walk around without any sort of spiritual or transcendental attitudes. "It's a self made misery It's a blatant blasphemy" "but all we have is sedation that numbs all our senses" However, right after, he tells us how we can fix this problem: "but all we need is a little transcendence to mend us" Finally, at (to me) the best part of the song, he is finally 'mended.' "I wanna peel back this layer reveal my new skin to the open air I feel a cleansing wash over me and I'm finally able to breathe" |

| Darkest Hour – The Tides Lyrics | 16 years ago |

First of all, The Eternal Return has some really deep themes. To me, this song hits hard on existence and the questions brought up about God and religion in general. "Meet me beyond the emptiness And only then will you see All that you have in this world Is all that you need" This is a message telling us that only when you take a true objective view of reality, you will realize you don't need a deity giving you purpose. Throughout the song, the tides are personified, and also shown to be inevitable, reliable occurences. However, at the end of the song, this is said: "If you think you can predict it We you fool and you fake Like it's all been arranged" This tells us a moment of clarity, finally giving us a 'truth.' The tides are not a reliable occurence at all. The tides are, in a sense, people with faith. |

| So she's talking about the different gods and other deities from all beliefs, but which one is it that she describes as "she?" herself? | |
