This song has alot to do with what I'm going through at the moment (or what I perceive the song to be). For me he's saying that he always walked the path that was laid out for him, and never strayed from it. He did everything he was told. Then she showed up and showed him how he should be living. That he should make his own decisions, and despite all of that he still walked the straightest of lines to stay with what was the norm. In the end it came to never doing what made him happy, or choosing to follow her and do what he always wanted to although it wasn't popular or easy. That's just what I believe though. |

I believe the song is about a man who is dying due to a fight, or conflict, and has had many past lovers. He's feeling a great amount of guilt for all of his past transgresions(sp?) and is pleading with God. I believe this, because the song mentions 3 seperate women who all seem to be wondering where their man is. Margaret Anne is hanging her head, because he left her too soon. And Mother Jones is left with his children. And his present mistress is Sue who he keeps thinking about, and is trying to tell her he won't be coming back. The Song also mentions how the rain comes to wash away everything the man ever did for them. This is obviously just my opinion, and it could be totally different. It just gives me that impression. |

I believe Brownish Spider is about giving up all hope, where Orange spider is more pesimistic, and yellow spider is at the begginning of the cd and full of hope and happiness. Kind of a progression to nothing. |

I believe he's trying to convey that he was/is having suicidal thoughts. It also could be that he's tried to commit suicide, because in the lines "So I’m on my hands and knees Like a martyr calling out his final plea The executioner looks exactly like me, it’s me It’s getting easy" I believe he's saying he regrets ever taking whatever is killing him, and he now realizes who killed him. It was himself. "I wish I had a single thought the least bit legitimate enough To open up my mouth and spit accuracy" also seems to be saying that he feels there is no thought worth living for, and that he can't say anything that seems to amount to anything at all. |
