Yes. Unreachable's lyrics are correct, straight from the liner. The last line on the page in the album liner is "listen" - after "Do you need me..." Having never heard this on the track before, I went to the end of that line and listened until the instrumental for a "listen," and after turning up the volume a bit, realized he very lightly whispers the word in the right channel just before the outro loop starts. Frusciante is awesome. |

I see this song as having an overall message of "Make love not war." Not war specifically, but anything that involves killing other human beings. I see the refrain at face value, but not in a raunchy BSSM way, more in a loving, caring way. And the song mentions him throwing his pistol in the ocean - this is the moment of a revelation that violence is not the answer - also, he mentions a pistol and it's pawn, the pawn being the user who kills with it. Also, sell it to the lexicon could mean to pick up art (in this case songwriting) instead of fighting. Finally, another line that supports the anti-war message is "Blood and border lines be drawn". Just my thoughts. It seems to be a very broad message. |
