Though not making use of any explicit material, this song simply has to be one of the sexiest of all times. The way in which he's experiencing this craving, this addiction to whoever is there in his/her room and describing it...well, its pretty damn amazing. He's completely at the mercy of this other person and wonders if he'll "always be here" or is just one of so may others..Actually I can even understand the interpretations above to this song's S&M meaning..the text is full or clues leading to it as well as a possible drug interpretation to which I'm also keeping an open mind about. One way or the other's a fair interpretation in its on right I guess and such subtlety and ambiguous leads indeed make this song a masterpiece. Love it. |

I always thought he was saying 'stripped down to the CORE'...It makes no difference at all though. I love this song and its meaning still holds true in both cases... |

| Supergrass – When I Needed You Lyrics

To me this song probably holds more than the usual "relationship" aspect that most people might associate it with, as in : Story of a guy who hits bottom ,thinks about a current/ ex girlfriend when he's at his lowest (in the shady bar and having a suicidal drive in his car) and in that context might think "Thats when I needed You"....INSTEAD, I'd rather think of it as a song dedicated to whatever 'entity' is out there watching your back. Call it God, Guardian Angel or just sheer luck.
BTW, really thought their songs would have more comments! |

No one commented on that one yet?! Too bad ...its actually a great song from TTWS, one of my favorites in fact...okay for the meaning, way I see it this song's from a bartender's point of view just relating a common thing within his line of work : atteding with the typical barfly- The guy whom Instead of spending his hard earned check to sustain his family, would rather drown his sorrows in some bar till early morning ,with the bartender for only company. His situation sucks so much he's even considering suicide (a notion probably made even more appealing due to the counltess drinks he's had...) funny thing with this song's the music which is far from depressing and dark as the underlying theme...well there's my take on it. |

*anna*'s second interpretation of this song absolutely nails its meaning for me ... and its even more stunning a fact that I aquired the album last week, went through almost the exact same thing describe in 'dakota' yesterday night and incidentally checked for this song's meaning tonight completely out of the blue ,without even knowing/expecting yesteday night's happenings and this song would be linked in such an oddly fascinating way! Strange (beautiful?) things do happen i guess...eihter way, I digged it but it means even more to me now. Great track. Great album. |

Nice to've posted the lyrics to this great song but...think there's a bunch of mistakes regarding places where it should have been "I didnt mean to..." instead of "I couldn't bear..." |

That's one rare, captivating and beautiful track we have here people....as for what it means , I'd rather keep an open mind. Right, for one part the lyrics may imply suicide (chec kout Madtom's bright insight to this song , like it) but hashhead did also bring about an interesting analysis of the song (backed by plausible arguments on top of it...) So one way or the other, lets just enjoy that great track regardless of whose right or wrong. And yes arkyopterix, I hear you...the music in itself holds such strength and richness you'd hardly heed the lyrics (dont get me wrong, the song's very well written as well) .Peace. |

A captivating song. Iwonder whether its got anything to do with the war in Iraq "Nature springs are caught in a war" hence the oil at stake and sought after by the "The imperious demands" (which) "are the local law"...I cant be absolutely sure about that point, still its an awesome song...love the
Everyone is a submarine
Looking for a dream far away
line...beautiful metaphor. |

Only thing I can think of close to an Iggy Pop reference was in the Road Movie concert (somthn' like 1996) where Michael Stipe just shows off his abs during the lines "I don't wanna be Iggy Pop
but if that's what it takes"...as for weather he did it or wrote these lines cuz that's one of their similarities remains anyone's guess. Not much of an explanation I know...but hey, thats a start! :) |

The way I see it, this song's about the very last, ulimate breath of life that anyone holds before dying and what it must actually feel like to see this final spark of life dissapear. Its described through these awesome lyrics and the guitar just has this 'requiem' side to it that makes the track so gloomy...yet fascinating.
Good thing some of you added the corrections as per CD Case...lyrics above didn't make any friggin' sense! |

I actually discovered that one song on the 'Live@Home' DvD and man...IT ROCKS! As for its meaning, Mr 'dumbfuckass''s version looks quite probable and i definitely agree...tho I wouldn't restrict it to Chad and fame ,but to each and every one of us who's ever tried pulling ourselves to the limit to ressemble someone 'So perfect'...only to find out that bottomline it aint as cool as we'd thought it would be.
Either way its an awwsome track so enjoy! |
