The way Daryl sings "And.." and the whole "Feeding time" verse are possibly my favorite moments on any GJ song.
I always thought it was generally about feeling weak and as if you're not special. |

| Radiohead – Karma Police Lyrics

I always liked to think it's about the people who think they have to be the karma police. They get angry at people for little things, or even worse, the things people can't help. Like how people can hold grudges for years about the stupidest things. Then the "I've given all I can..." is bascially saying that hatred has taken so much from the person but they still do it. "For a minute there, I lost myself" (one of my favorite lyrics ever) is when the person realizes that they wasted time being so blindly angry and became something they didn't mean to be. |

Oh wow I love this song, and no one knows it. Sad.
Anyway, he's in a bad relationship yet he continues with it because it's familiar. He's afraid of change, and even though he hates staying in it, he does. Now he's becoming apathetic because he's done it so much. He stopped caring and just does it out of habit. |

| David Bowie – Modern Love Lyrics

|
It's about trying to put your faith in something and it not working. His relationships all fail, so he goes to church for guidance. He doesn't find it, so he goes back out and gets his heart broken again. It's a vicious cycle of him trying to find something meaningful and never being able to. Modern love fails him. God fails him. Yet he still succumbs to both, hoping things will change. |

Bert said this whole record is about all the fake people he's encountered, and I think this song is from the fake's point of view. He/she feels depressed since they realize that they're a fake and decide to change it. |

| The Goo Goo Dolls – Name Lyrics

I watched an interview a few years back where John said it was about his mother, and I can totally see that. To me, I think of it more as a person growing up believing they'll be great and they'll make something of themselves, but failing to do so and losing hope because of things that happened in their past. Like the past won't let them achieve their dreams, so they give up altogether.
This is one of those songs that I love but can hardly listen to because of the emotion of it. Sadly, its theme is true of a lot of people, and that line "Don't it make you sad to know that life is more than who we are" is amazing and true. I can't hear it without getting emotional. Such a beautiful, well written song. |

Everybody got the whole "scene" thing, so I'll leave that be since we all understand it. I just need to say the last stanza is fantastic. Like... I'm going to do my thing and live while you're all complaining. "I'm still the optimist though it is hard..." is a great attitude. He knows life ain't a cakewalk but he's still positive through all the things he deals with since life sucks sometimes. At least, that's what I get, but then again I'm projecting my attitude onto my interpretation. |

It's his way of saying that he doesn't care about consequences. He's doing what he wants now, and fuck the rest. He knows it's a bad decision, he knows he's fucked up, and he doesn't care. He's just living how he wants at the moment. The "clever ain't wise" line I think really sums that up. |

I honestly don't hear it. "I could be more" sounds like it's in there, but everything else is just ASAJSGAJSGUUUU to me. Maybe it's my ears lol. I don't think it was intentional either, just one of those things that happens. THese lyrics are totally negative and I don't think MCR would do that purposely. It is really creepy though... thanks for the nightmares lol |

i had always thought of this song as a "sign of the times" kind of thing. He's talking about all the violence going on in the 60s in the various cities mentioned. I never really got the "She came and then she drove away..." but standoubt's explanation sounds good. There was a lot of debate on the abortion issue at the time, if I remember correctly. |

I think all the kind of death imagery and the Day of the Dead title are metaphor for him having to leave her and their relationship suffering because of it. He comes back to her and sees what she's been feeling and promises that he's faithful and won't leave.

I think it's about the media and industry's impression of artists. They see a business opportunity and utilize it. They use musicians to profit, and butter them up the whole time to get what they want.

I love the album version, it's almost perfect, but this version has a special place in my heart. I'm glad they used the "we never really liked you much anyway" in "Dead!" (although worded a bit different) since I love that line, but I WISH they had used "And when you go, run don't walk, and when you sing, scream don't talk" in the album version or another song. It's just too good to remain on a bootleg live song only. |

| My Chemical Romance – The End. Lyrics
|
Perfect beginning to a fantastic album. It's the introduction of the Patient's story, where he's spending his last moments basically thinking his life was wasted (When I grow up, I want to be nothing at all) but that death will be a welcomed release from his life (I'd encourage your smiles and expect you won't cry). It's also a metaphor for change. The death of an old way of life/thinking in favor of a new positive one. In the band's case, I think it's casting off the "emo" labels and embracing a musical change. All MCR songs gave multiple meanings: the literal story based meaning, the metaphor, and sometimes a meaning pertaining to the band/members personally.
I find it amazing how they made an album about a pretty dark subject (dying) and made it into one of the most inspirational things I've heard in awhile. This and FLW are my favorites. The contrast between the two is great. It makes you want to go and live life while you have it. |

| Muse – The Small Print Lyrics

The devil theory makes a lot of sense. It's from his point of view. He's saying I'll do for you now on Earth, but after that you're mine, hence the small print being that you burn for eternity in exchange for a good time up here. "I'm the priest God never payed." = Satan wasn't given anything special by God (why he rebelled, he thought he was better than Him), so he dwells in Hell trying to corrupt us up here. Every soul he gets is his "payment." |

I see how it's about Daryl's illness, but I also think it can be interpreted as anything you don't have control over having a negative effect on your life. It's unfair. For Daryl, it's the disease. For someone else, it could be something completely different. |

| AFI – The Leaving Song Pt. 2 Lyrics
|
To me this is about creating a facade to hide behind. It appears to be near perfect when actually the real person inside is suffering. The first virse and chorus are someone trying to break down the wall. Second verse is admitting to acting like someone else and recognizing that it's too much work to keep up. The last part (I saw it's birth...) is reinforcing that what once was a way of surviving is now too much to take.
One of my fav songs ever. AFI is amazing. |

DAMN i love this song. It's about alcoholism/drug addiction and the downward spiral it sends you on. Ruins relationships, fucks you up physically, causes depression, causes you to do things you would never do sober (a lot of regrets).

the end is 'S-I-N-I-S-I-N" which could be Sin Is In or Sin, I Sin. But that is the words, listen to a live version it's clearer there.
It's not "say it lover say it" after the first chorus either. At first I thought it said, "Sayonara" (meaning goodbye) but I'm not sure anymore. It's not what it says up there though!
Still my favorite song. Love it when they play it live. I beat a girl next to me during the "You better run..." part 'cause I was pumping my fist so hard. |

This was instantly my favorite track when I first listened to the whole album. It's so powerful. To me, it is about not regretting your past decisions/mistakes, but they still come back to haunt you, whether it be in nightmares or some other way. As a part of the story, I think it is a continuation of "Mama." Like living with the horrible things that he did in war.
The "WAKE UP!" part is what got me. So fucking amazing. |

I agree. The storyline aspect of it seems like a kind of perserverance for the Patient. I think he lives.
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. Very well written and the main riff and solo are phenomenal. The whole theme of getting out of a bad situation and realizing you'll be fine is powerful and relatable. It's one of those songs that you can put a lot of personal situations to.
Also, the whole album is a metaphor for change. The Patient dying can be taken as an old life or bad habit ending in favor of a new one, of finding who you really are. There's a bunch of metaphors throughout, and the different situations and characters interwoven into the story is amazing. It's genius. Even taken literally as dying, it's genius.

| My Chemical Romance – Kill All Your Friends Lyrics

pommedeterrific took the words right out of my mouth. first time i heard this, i thought it was a commentary on emo and the labels placed on them.
"we are all a bunch of liars tell me baby who do you wanna be?" - they're labeled sellouts and fakes
"we are all about to sell it 'cause its tragic with a capital T" - they're a gimmick
"sometimes you scrape and sink so low i'm shocked at what you're capable of" - media bashing/haters
"and if this is a coronation i ain't feelin the love" - others label them as the definitive band of our time (coronation as kings) yet they're constantly being hated on
"i was killing before killing was cool" - they were hte first to popularize themes of revenge, etc.
"you'll never take me alive, do what it takes to survive 'cause i'm still here" - we'll last no matter what anyone says
That's just what I get. I also see the whole changing and growing apart from people you once cared about, and only seeing them when one of the group dies.
Hooray for Black Parade b-sides! |
