I think this song is about people who spend there days judging others and telling them how to live their lives. They write books such as 10 ways to improve your life... but their life is just a miserable as everyone else's. i think what it is really saying is that instead of telling everyone else whats wrong with them and just giving them so much talk about how to be better, that person needs to start thinking about how they can be a better person, and instead of lecturing others, help them along with few words instead of a huge lecture.-- A night of foolish chatter is easily replaced by a couple bold statements-- WE need to be concerned with how we live our lives before we tell others how to live theirs

This is a great song about how if the only thing we are concerned with is being rich, having the coolest toys, and getting the hottest boys/girls, then we are living a futile life. As it states in the end of the song, we are just a drip in time compared to the ocean that is eternity. And if we spend all of our life searching and striving for goods that will dissappear with the end of our life, then we got troubles. Find something that is eternal, something that you will be remembered by and make that your purpose |

I agree with barrel of monkeys in that this song is about fighting of temptations in our lives, whatever they may be. I think the main gist of the song is that fighting these temptations and doing our best to be faithful to God isn't an easy thing, but rather its very difficult. "Following with frequency won't become a place to lay our heads" Just because we are Christians doesn't mean that we can just sit back and take life easy, but rather we have to take it like a man. "The hand. The Furnace. The straight face." We take it like a man and even when we are burning our hand on the furnace (or struggling so much with temptation that it is painful) we will keep on fighting it with a straight face.

i totally agree w/ pnew that this song is about Christians who have been a Christian for so long and they go thru the motions, but in the end they have missed out on the real meaning of Christianity, and that is to be one with Christ. |
