'what does this song mean to you?' i can't possibly guess at dredg's meaning, as i know nothing about their philosophies, but i've just returned from a particularly engaging discussion in which this idea was presented: life is the universe's way of becoming self aware. thus, i'm inclined to think of the "you" as being addressed to the universe herself. this song, to me, is about the journey and eventual epiphany regarding life and energy... "i'm not inside of you / you are all around me / is this what you needed to have to comfort you?" "i wait all this time over you," brings to mind our mortal obsession with the afterlife (whether it exists or not, and if so, what is it?), while the tone of regret suggests a rejection of future and implies embracing the present. actually, perhaps on further study, my idea is neither relevant or consistent. :| i'm back at square one again. gorgeous song though. |
