I think this song is about how humans are way beyond any god or devil we could make up, both in evil and in good.

To me this is more about the magazines and media that INFLUENCE people to be fake and vain than the people themselves. It seems to be to be sort of personifying the media and trends as a seductive devil who people 'only love' because it 'makes them pretty' |

To me this song is about a certain kind of controlling person who is self righteous and can't admit to what they feel, and being in relationship with that person. To me there's almost an element of sadomasochism in this-- of the speaker seeming almost to lust after the person even while being treated badly by them. |
