Is the term "Shadow of the Valley of Death" taken from a book or something?? Because in the Cradle of Filth song Presents from the Poison-Hearted, they say "In the Galley of the Shadow of Death." Very similar...in that same song, they also refer to Adam, perhaps from the bible, or perhaps from Manson's story. Holy Wood came out three years prior to Damnation and a Day by Cradle. |

I dig Mithrawn's interpretation. 3 songs previous to this one-Coma Black-he says "I'd kill myself to make everybody pay," and the song after this one is Adam's failed suicide. So to me, this song is almost like a suicide note, telling the world how he feels about the revolution going to shit which then leads him to become the superficial drug addicted rock star, omega. |

There are definetly moments where you can start to hear the raw GLSV666 sound start to bite through, but its just too polished for that kind of sound. Main complaint is that Song or Suicide isn't long enough. That song would have been epic. |

Yeah, this song kicks total and complete ass. I would marry it were it a woman because it is a beautiful song, and would therefore be a beautiful woman.
I think the song is about a first love. The way he says "love is a word you gave it a name" makes it sound like whomever he is singing about showed him what love really is.
P.S. Finlandians, keep me posted on cool bands cuz the music over there kicks total and complete ass (i like that phrase). I love HIM, Negative, 69 Eyes, The rasmus, Spiha... I think thats it. |

If you want to interpret the song in a kind of tounge in cheek sort of way, it could be about a floor where you kill passion, i.e. get laid. I doubt that auctually has anything to do with it, but thats what I thought when I first heard the name. |

I'm pretty sure this one is about bathory being crucified. For example the last line:
"And she would rot alone insane
on the twisted nails of faith"
And the next song on the album (Bathory Aria) starts off with the line:
"Snuffed tapers sighed
As death left impressing
His crest of cold tears on the Countess
Benighted like ill fated usher
The house of bathory shroud neath despairs dark facade" So it's clear shes dead, cuz death is impressing his crest of cold tears on her (wtf?).
One of cradles best CD's, I love this song, and I LOVE the remake of Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name" on the bonus disc. |

Yeah, its about vampires.
"We rise with the sun in the underworld" When the sun rises in the underworld (sets) they rise, like vampires would.
"Rich Red Vascular Tapestries" Sounds to me like they're hungry for blood.
And I don't think they would say that they miss their glorious past if they were talking about themselves, because that would be like admitting that they sold out. Personally, I don't think they sold out, but there is an obvious difference in their sound on the new one. It almost sounds like Dani's vox are worn out, cuz I don't ever hear him get as high as he used to. Also, the rest of the band sounds like they are getting lazy. They don't have the blistering drum beats and the crazy riffs that they used to, but its still good. I kinda like it toned down. |

Love Metal and Dark Light couldn't sound any more different if they had been trying to make them sound like opposites. For starters, the one way to tell when a band really is not even trying is by just listening to the lyrics of the chorus, you will notice that in dark light, for most of the songs they just repeat the title of the track, with a couple other lyrics added in. And all of the songs in dark light are almost interchangeable, whereas in love metal, where i believe they were at the peak of their songwriting, the songs were much more diverse (not to mention longer). Just look at the first to tracks of love metal, Buried Alive by Love and The Funeral of Hearts, the first being lively, and upbeat, while the second is slow and almost entrancingly sorrowful. But in dark light, vampire heart and the song we're discussing sound like they are two parts of the same song! Anyway, if it helps any of you discussing the song, i heard that somewhere in the bible it refers to the catholic church as a butterfly.
P.S. if HIM aren't satanists, can someone please explain why they named their first CD greatest love songs vol. 666? I'm not saying they are, but it doesn't really add up.
P.P.S. I don't think HIM really stands for His Infernal Majesty, (I've even heard back when Hanson was popular they said it stood for Hanson Is Murder) I think its referring to how when we refer to god in text, we always write Him witha capital H, so they took it one step further and capitalized the whole thing. |

I am the enemy, Indulgences had nothing to do with making people bow to the church. All an indulgence was was spending money to supposedly get your soul or the soul of a loved one cleared from purgatory, the great punishment house between earth, and either heaven or hell. I don't know anything about the babylon whore though. I know at least most of this CD has to do with the fall of lucifer, but I have no idea what this song is about. On the surface, it would seem to be about a girl with an eating disorder or some sort of sex idol for dani, but cradle's work can never be interpreted from the surface... |

To me, this song is in the first four lines:
"The time has come
to rise again
freedom lift thy sewered hem
free from beasts and skewered men"
To me, this song is about the death of freedom, by religion. That where the name coffin fodder came from. Freedom is dead, coffin, buried, its nothing but fodder now. The lyrics make many, many refrences to religion "slit the witch and watch him bleed as with any inquisition," as in the spanish inquisition where catholics went to these tribunal places to tell on their neighbors who were supposedly practicing protestantism. They would then be dealt with appropriatly (mainly tortured until they confessed). They killed a couple thousand people before they put a stop to this. "Lying from the start, these preachers plied their craft, scoffing elder glories," as in the craft of a preacher is to lie.
Now, I don't necessarily have a problem with religion. If it makes people feel better about themselves, fine, I'm all for that. But when you start making people do alturistic things, i.e. give money, you know its not auctually about right and wrong, its about power and politics.
Anyway, this song is amazing, my band is gonna play it right now, not cuz of th lyrics, but cuz of the amazing double guitar riff that repeats periodically throughout the song |

OK, Quiffporn I agree with you that it really defeats the purpose when the only reason someone listens to a band is because they wanna get with the singer. But I'm a HIM fan so just let people like what they like, even if it is for the wrong reasons. Just be happy liking what you like for the "right" reasons.
Ok about the song. I've always thought it was about how there is a painful side to love. The word razorblade obviously represents the pain, and the word kiss is the blissful side of love. Not my favorite song by HIM, but I do like this CD
