umm thought i would write a short run over as some of the ideas people mentiond in a little more formal way. and better term use. The song is a critique of post-modern society The lose of faith in anything not material I.e. ultimate reality (god) The dominances of the nihilist abyss which as swallowed society And the failure of liberalism which has lead to a consumerist religion of faith in the market More specifically “Goodbye, the future's sold out There's no use screaming Who thought we'd ever get this far Tonight, your faith has come down” Can be take in a few different ways, the 1st 2 lines talk about the loss of hope and faith of anything to come. Second line explains to those that there is nothing that can be done, its to late society is lost. “who thought we’d ever get this far” – about the idea coming from the enlightenment they saw it as a good thing and now the consequences of it are nothing that was expected slave states- and faithless mass. (though it was identified by the existentialists as what was to come) “Faith has come down to.. To money & a TV Psychics who've never been to Mars And nazis breast feeding I know you must be upset” About the loss of real faith, and turn towards the market as a religions and other pseudo-faiths “I can't find meaning I'm sorry, we're sorry We're all scared, all scared” Nothing more true. With awash in the abyss, with no meaning (even langue when looking with the post- structuralises lens). Meaning can only be invented, and is absurd. To anyone whom comes face to face with the true of this reality (not Truth) it is a very fighting thing. “Goodnight, the truth has come out Everyone's needy White teeth, a ticket to meet God” Talks about the need in our society to get “love” (or utility the call it) and by physical image of things, to get to the ultimate goal. A selling out of faith. “Be all that you envy The shotgun under your bed has Started breathing You shot it, you shot it I'm bare, I'm bare” Not sure here. So I will not try. ”Hey, is anybody home Has anybody painted fear On the bedroom walls that save us from . .” The bring back a idea of aesthetics and the importance of art? maybe “bedroom walls” division? Alienation is also another thyme that seems to be involved which is also part of the current post-modern urban-techno society. |
