| The Clientele – Since K Got Over Me Lyrics

I agree. Kafta named "K" the main character of The Castle and The trial, and it's been used in literature many times ever since. K is also the main character in J.M. Coetzee's "Life and times of Michal K". It's the title of a short story anthology by Dino Buzzati (named "K" after one of the stories). And there's a book named "A rosebush for Mr. K" by Mexican poet Laura Solorzano. I'm sure there a ton of other references.
It may be just that. |

"Will you render her asunder with what she really needs"
Now that I finally got that line, it sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it. Freaky as hell is what it is (I know, "freaky", how appropriate). |

It's about Buddhism, once again, I believe.
"I've willed, I've walked, I've read
I've talked, I know, I know,
I've been here before"
Well, i think this one is to be taken quite literal. He realizes he's been here before, perhaps eons ago. He's reincarnated. Now he knows it.
"hey, now we won't be raped
"hey, now we won't be scarred like that
He knowsthe Dharma, so he won't be scarred again, he understands the real state of things, he knows he can escape suffering, he's living a "dream".
"it's the sun that burns
"it's the wheel that turns
"it's the way we sing that makes 'em dream"
The wheel must be the Wheel of Samsara (the whole issue on being born, growing, dying, being born again, and again...). People are a living in a dream. |

Is the part about Kennedy a sexual pun? You know, these beautiful women would make people "grow". Or perhaps I'm just a pervert or dude with a fertile imagination. |

What's the phrase he keeps repeating in the end? Sounds like "you're alive" or "you're a lie" to me. I don't know, it's not anywhere on the lyrics and nobody seems to comment about it. Maybe I'm just hallucinating (again). |

| Flotation Toy Warning – Losing Carolina; for Drusky Lyrics

Donald S. Drusky was an old man who sued God in 1999.
He wanted "God to return his youth and grant him the guitar-playing skills of the famous guitarists along with resurrecting his mother and his pet pigeon.
If God failed to appear in court, federal rules of civil procedure said he must lose by default."
Drusky's lawsuit was dismissed, obviously.
So, that makes it pretty clear to me, the captain is God ("who's smiling this time, old man?") and the decorated man is Donald Drusky. I believe, "he doesn't want to know that its bedtime" means he doesn't want his life to end, he doesn't want to "go to sleep", he wants to keep playing, keep living. |

Has anyone seen Jean Piere Jeunet's film "Amelie"? I can relate this song to that movie.
I think it's about someone who is, as the lyrics state, "allergic to love" so he compensates his lack of relationships with small pleasures and details (like books and music); whims, if you like. Just like Amélie Poulain does in the movie. |

| Flotation Toy Warning – Fire Engine on Fire pt.II Lyrics

I believe this song is about one's heart becoming numb after being broken too many times (or perhaps just one). There's this guy that doesn't fall in love out of fear, thus he never gets his heart broken. He always keeps his cool, he walks ("I always ran") through warm roads, he doesn't fall, he is in fact like a clockwork man. He is always in control.
In the last strophe the methods of this clockwork man are questioned. Yeah, he never gets hurt, he never falls, but, doesn't he miss that? Doesn't he miss loving at the risk of getting hurt? Doesn't he miss losing control? Because love, my friends, is all about losing control. Can he really take "you" (some girl, I imagine) where the boombands play? Can he show the beautiful things in life being the way he is (all numb)? I believe not.
I don't know if I made myself clear, English is not my mother tongue and I always have a hard time trying to be clear. I think I just repeated the lyrics. Well, I hope you get my point. Great song by way. And remember, loving is always worth the risk of falling. |
