| Katy Perry – I Kissed a Girl Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I'm torn about this song, overall. I like that it doesn't peg down sexuality - we're all supposed to be heterosexual, bisexual or homosexual. Why? This song is about a girl who has a boyfriend (which, I don't really advocate the cheating, but whatever) and kisses a girl on a whim, and surprise - she likes it. I like that it's edgy and, as another commenter said - her line 'and I liked it' is really strong and in-your-face. She wants you to know it's not wrong to enjoy something that may be foreign to you. However, she does undermine both her own relationship, and the other party involved in this song. The line 'Hope my boyfriend don't mind it' seemed unnecessary and placed there merely to prove that she's not going to be gay, just that she's tried it the once, but don't worry guys! She's still straight. Other than that, like others have said - it's just a song! A pop song! Probably shouldn't be reading too much into it. Overall, I think it's good that someone is out there legitimizing the idea of experimenting with yourself and having fun. Life's too short not to. |

| Lady GaGa – Just Dance Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I read an interview with her saying that it was about when you do drugs and drink and you're so messed up you can't even figure out what's going on, so you just dance because you can't really do anything else - or that if you were to stay still you might realize you're TOO messed up. Definitely been there - it can be fun though! | |
| Eric Clapton – Cocaine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I wouldn't suggest anyone try drugs. Sometimes you're the kind of person who can do it once a year and be fine.... and sometimes you're not. And when you're not, you end up wishing you'd never tried drugs in the first place. I would know. Still trying to kick my bad habits. It's not easy. | |

The lyrics are great because they provide lyrics that aren't actually being said. To me what the song means (and the silent line that follows the chorus) is that it's saying "Maybe I'm the one who is the schizophrenic psycho, but I doubt it..." because he's fed up dealing with whomever he's dating, who's obviously a nutcase. Politically incorrect to use the term schizophrenic like that, but it's not like it hasn't been done before. I don't think I need to touch upon the heavy influence Nirvana seems to play on this song, it's pretty obvious. Good if you miss Nirvana, bad for originality. Decent song overall. |

Beautiful song, of course. Chan Marshall has a disturbingly wonderful and deeply touching voice. To me, this song is about being afraid of death. "We all do what we can, so we can do just one more thing" just strikes me somehow. People these days are so afraid of the world and themselves that they eat all the right things and exercise just the right amount in the right way so they can live a little longer, as though if they hit just the right combination of things they'll live forever. To me it seems like the words are trying to tell us, we can be free from that fear, we don't have to worry, there's no point. It's all about changing your mindset. |
