| Deftones – Rx Queen Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| This song is about a girl addicted to drugs loved by a guy who's addicted to her. The opening verse says just that, how he gives up everything to keep following her in her downward spiral "the death of everything new". He only puts up with it and uses because he loves her "if you sting me, i won't mind". The second verse is metaphorical, the moon could be anywhere since nobody is there but the two of them. The fire they make would be under the spoon they use to cook up. Not 100% on what the carcass is a metaphor for. Could be an old discarded syringe or drugs. The "red light in june" is most likely the lights from the ambulance that's arrived. The crying could be from a baby or someone that's discovered them. He then sees she's turned "new born baby blue" (dead) and she's stung him for the last time. | |
| Toadies – Tyler Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| This sounds like someone with an unhealthy obsession. His name is probably "Tyler". He seems to stalk a girl, she might be a jogger or just someone who is really busy. He fantasizes of taking her to Mexico, but most likely it would be by means of kidnapping against her will. He sneaks into her house through her kitchen and grabs some liquid courage from her fridge. The anticipation is the best part for him. He's drunk and stumbling to her bedroom and it wakes her. She probably shouts "Who's there?!" frightened and it makes him want her more. The song pretty much ends with him pushing the door and her hiding under the covers, but the determination in the last line of the song leads us to believe he won't take no for an answer. | |

I realize what the song sounds like and that people tend to allude to drugs or aliens, but for some reason this song fits perfectly for me as losing someone, not necessarily to addiction or disease, but emotionally. She's not necessarily leaving him for someone else either. Try and follow me on this. "she's mostly gone some other place" These lines are saying she still around, but he senses her feelings for him gone. "i'm getting by in other ways" Here he's saying he's coping emotionally without her in whatever ways necessary. "everything they whispered in our ear is coming true" He admits to not heeding the signs or anyone's warnings that he could be losing her, and he sees it happening. "try to justify the things i used to do believe in you" When you love someone, you try and see past their faults, their lies because love blinds you to the truth. It's possible he felt betrayed. "watching you drown i'll follow you down and i am here right beside you" It's a metaphoric way of simply saying "I'm losing you, but I'm going to keep trying to get you back. I'll never leave you." "the lights in the sky have finally arrived i am staying right beside you" The lights in the sky signify a little glimmer of hope. He sees that hope finally, perhaps she's opened up to him instead of being distant. He decides to keep trying win her back. "i tried to stay away you know just in case" This could mean a couple of things. When you feel lost without someone who doesn't love you, pursuing them tends to push them away, which he doesn't want to do. It could also mean he's afraid of the end of the relationship so he's avoided unnecessary contact. "i've come to realize we all have our place" He's realizing that his place in her life has changed. "time has a way you know to make it clear" The more time passes, the more distance or lack of feelings from her becomes more apparent. "i have my role in this i can't disappear or leave you here" He feels guilt for her loss of love for him, admitting he had a hand in it. He can't allow it to end that way, with her not loving him. "watching you drown i'll follow you down and i am here right beside you" Again like before, "I'm losing you, but I'm going to keep trying to get you back. I'll never leave you." "the lights in the sky are waving goodbye i am staying right beside you" Now for me, these are the saddest lyrics of the song. As the glimmer of hope starts to fade and it becomes obvious there's no salvaging her love for him, he can't free himself of feeling lost without her. |

| Jack Johnson – Fortunate Fool Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| By the way, those who keeps saying something about this girl being "beautiful and gorgeous", I would read the lyrics again because Jack doesn't even hint that she's any of those things. She's just portrayed as THINKING she's smart and being VERY charismatic because of her ability to fool everyone into thinking she's something she's not. | |
| Jack Johnson – Fortunate Fool Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Well, according to wikipedia, Jack Johnson never had any intentions of becoming a musician because he had already gone to college for videography. Due to the lyrics "The seven foreign films that she's checked out", I assume it could be a girl that went to the same college. And I would have to agree with him being sarcastic throughout the song. That "mmmmm..." is him trying to contain himself from saying something mean about her. I think people get the song misconstrued because of the mellow-yet-melodic way he sings the song as if it were supposed to be something beautiful or positive, but c'mon... that kind of thing has be done forever now... the Beatles used to put happy beats and melodies to sarcastic and even somber lyrics. These lyrics confuse me because they are more a matter of interpretation, "She gives thanks for what they gave her;Man, they practically made her;Into a mmm" Now I can picture bunch of possibilities with those lyrics, what they've given her being: compliments, awards, etc., I'm not sure what it is they've given her, but basically Jack Johnson is not fooled by her "smarts or charisma" while she's charmed the pants off of everyone else. Everyone else has made her into that fortunate fool for being so gullible. She's a fool because she's a phony and she's fortunate because he's the only one who knows, lol. Based on other responses, I think we've pretty much closed this case. | |
| Nirvana – Been a Son Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I was just about to chime in the same thought before I got to the end of this. Interpretationalist said it well though. I have a gf who's from Hong Kong and her dad hated her from the day she was born, til the day her brother was born. Cause after he was born, it didn't matter anymore. He had his son. He was just indifferent with her. This song makes me think of her. | |
