then the eyes closed and wake up might have something do with representing someone that "died" that didnt envision the fiery crash?

Andrew Bird – Fiery Crash Lyrics 18 years ago
think it has to do with being forced to watch what's on tv and having your own words/values replaced repeatedly until you finally can not remember your own values/thoughts...and that we need to envision what this could do to our future generations or something and these generations that can not think for themselves represent the fiery crash? and the drugs like drammamine may be aiding in the process...Imposition-people imposing what they value/enjoy/like and premonition-the anticipation of the fiery crash. Nod to mortality because you are losing your humanity. Definetely think it has nothing to do with an actual crash. I am lost with the first stanza and "close your eyes and you wake up"-why close eyes and then wake up? whats with the mace? Anyone else have insight?

Andrew Bird – Fake Palindromes Lyrics 18 years ago
the only thing that strikes me as odd is that although someone might use a drill to kill someone with a hole through that person's head, the imagery i get from the drilling is like that of the manchurian candidate and mind control performed by using a very small drill... but i think it's probably about an actual power drill still. and, the monsters brought upon imagery of titans still walking the earth in B.C. times. fratricide is murder of a baby so he might be implying that jesus probably would've been killed...i really dont know-just throwing some ideas out there.

Andrew Bird – Darkmatter Lyrics 18 years ago
this song has really got me...i have a few ideas but they're probably not even close. The lyrics that really stand out is the true location of the self (soul, maybe?). thought it might have something to do with removing body parts that might contain the soul (thus leaving ppl with no souls) or using methods such as chemotherapy or directed radiation to destroy cancer cells and also removing tumors along with other cells...Did we remove the soul or self along with it?...the ladder part of the song definetely has a greater meaning but can't figure it out right now

Andrew Bird – Cataracts Lyrics 18 years ago
i think this one is fairly easy...maybe. By uninvited tongues i think it means being conquered by another culture that speaks another culture. We'll be left without our mothers and fathers who would be killed in the conflict and then we would be forced lukewarm liquid or crap we don't believe in, due to our concrete value systems and will appreciate what we had before. We will be able to see in the night because we learn to reflect the light we dont want (just as cataracts and cats both do)but it shouldn't have to come to this so..if we stop accepting everything as true/right immediately and start finding the facts out for ourselves. Only by actively trying/working at being community minded can we prevent the takeover. let me know your opinions

Andrew Bird – Case in Point Lyrics 18 years ago
conceptual hell has something to do with our dependence on oil and maybe the sand has something to do with the middle east and how when things like refineries go you are left with nothing b'c what you have wont run on nothing (not even good for kindling - brick house maybe and how it related to gasoline engines without oil...i really dont know here. Then ppl try to blame the problem we would be in with no oil/ or other resource on everyone but they werent exactly part of the solution either. He is trying to sell the idea of a horse- simple, works, and makes sense for work/transportation. "I'm a breather
Bottom feader
How many liters
Must I imbibe"- has to do with using last of oil and how much should he take...how much does he deserve...he is all in all maybe just reminding the world that we could try using resources that are renewable and that have proven to work in the past.

Andrew Bird – Banking on a Myth Lyrics 18 years ago
it seems to me that he is definetely talking about something like record companies/dominating corporate power in art(though i wouldnt call mainstream stuff that) and expression. i can only interpret the second half of the song (to the best of my ability)..not sure about the first half. you're inside and you're in tight means you know what you like, dislike, and what you belive in...then selling things of the abstract sort refer to the mainstream's interpretation of art and music that they're force feeding us like it helps us get through our day. It floods the market and the fool's gold is being bought rather than real gold so bird can't make money...and then when these executives are brought down from power there stands a handsome bid on the weather systems possibly because they achieved so much power that now a simple change of hands could grant the power of "IMPOSITION"-from fiery crash song. They are imposing on our concrete values, which are not as concrete for some, and trying to define what should be important/valued by people in general.

Andrew Bird – Action/Adventure Lyrics 18 years ago
he's saying that ppl are so eager to give themselves to an american dream-like career that they are duty-free to the employers and how that is quite pathetic. He's maybe implying that by having a "head in the clouds" personality and a real sense of humanity, rather than just worrying about having a big house and nice clothes that ppl think he is wasting their time. im not sure about the back of the hand thing and i think pen is a pun for pi..n like munkel is implying. I guess it's just an eagerness to strike these fools..or poke them haha ...i dunno. i think bird is saying he's duty free because he's eager to help or spend time with others.

Andrew Bird – A Nervous Tic Motion of the Head to the Left Lyrics 18 years ago
I didnt read all of the comments so what i say may have been covered somewhat, previously. I think by "nervous tic motion of the head to the left" bird means that we felt or sensed something supernatural or beyond our grasp that just influenced the moment so we turn our heads like we might catch what we thought was something in the corner of our eye(no im not crazy haha). This feeling we get that there might be "something else" makes us look for a purpose in our lives or realize that we are akin to pennies on the train track (ben kweller) and that something is controlling our fate and there's nothing we can do about it. I'm not sure about the stanzas with the characters or how they relate...ill keep trying to figure it out
