well, the "should we go outside..." part makes sense in the context of the abortion if you think about it as being sung to the aborted fetus. the notion of going outside being something a mother does with her child. and the notion of bread perhaps for nourishment but more compellingly to represent a sort of reconciliation, which is why she asks "are you interested?" this is crude, but it's almost as if she's saying "i'm sorry i killed you. please, forgive me, and let's try to look past that." |

It's rape told from the rapist's point of view. "Her body was free" "She was so pretty pretty as can be and I thought my God, why shouldn't it be me?" "I wasn't even her first, so don't blame it on me" "Don't put a beautiful body In front of somebody who's hungry" And that with the very dark, creepy retro-blues of the song which gives it this primal atmospheric quality. It's rape. Although the idea of woman envy is interesting, but it doesn't take all the lines of the song into account. |
