this song isn;t sad per se, just about picking yourself up. which is hard and you end up with a lot of the same emotions sadness brings. saying that, im not sure why this song makes me happy when it comes on. I love it. i think it may be the hopefulness in his voice, its reassuring that you are doing better than you know. |

the lyrics are a little off. its "i wanna live my life like somebody's shadows." not im gonna. he wants to, i dont really know how it would be possible to do so... ahyways. thats unimportant. this song is amazing. like almost all bright eyes songs. my favorite line by far is the beginning "I'm always begging into telephones I bought a little from my brother's friend Well, just to get me by I don't trust his cut The effect is never as high as the mark-up" i think though, its the most meaningless part of the whole song. this song is completely about drugs. i feel like the first line is literal and metophorical. its a rainy day, and its hard not to do drugs on a rainy day. [be dry] but you know, its also hard to not literally get wet on a rainy day. as the rain could be metaphorical too. its hard to be sober when the choice is there. and the girl, he wants to get over her. "looking for a match" which is also a metaphor, but has already been explained so i dont need to repeat it. but he still wants to be there for her. and hes pissed shes been using him. you can hear it in his voice. with "once i'm gone, tell all our friends how you got even" i think hes [like in many songs] just wanting to kill himself. because life is hard, but also to make her feel like shit. make her feel the mistakes she made. he's saying, "you never cared, you used me, you'd trade our love to feed your addiction anyday." like the line "you'd sell me for cost." and then by the end hes like i just basically said i want to die so she feels bad, but i still love her. still need her. he'll be there for her this time, whatever she needs he'll be. stuff he would never do before like "hold a door." becasue he needs her, like he needs his drugs. |
