i'm not entirely convinced this is about a relationship based on sex. can't see where that might be suggested. to me, it's just a song about someone knowing that someone else has done something awful. i love this song's dark and almost spiteful nature. The instruments (guitar?) used on the track before "i've got your number" are played harshly, and it really suits the theme. i heard an interview with Guy Garvey saying even how he wrote such a dark song, he couldn't help but put in the final line. Even though this person has done something bad, the protagonist is still completely taken by them. excellent song! |

my interpretation of the song is the guy finally telling the girl how much she means to him. i can imagine him having the feelings built up for ages, then she asks him "what's up", and all this comes out. "all my time is yours, my twisted heart is yours..." he's infatuated by her. "shameless fits of love that only smother you for moments" is how in the past he would have accidentally let his guard down and momentarily made it obvious how he didnt just see her as a friend. the lines "were you crushed" "did i rush you" and "not to rush you" all show his nervousness in finally telling her the truth. either way, whatever. fantastic song! |

| to me, it's a man imagining having an affair with a girl who is spoken for. the first two lines saying how immediately he felt bad for doing it, but then got over it. the second verse is her ushering him out so they don't get caught together. it's a sad ending, where in reality he is just sitting, drinkng and imagining this all, and he probably won't ever get this girl. | |
