I wasn't sure how literally to take this song...
It's interesting because it could go either way. He could be being serious or sarcastic.
That's the great thing with sarcasm, you never can be sure ;) |

Fairly obviously it's about blind faith in religion (it doesn't have to be Christianity, although that's what the song focuses on).
I think it's very easy to get offended by this song. When i first listened to it, i was a Christian, and i was a little concerned by it, A few years later, I'm a firm atheist, and I fully empathise with it. I'm surrounded by Christians, who are very similar to how I used to be, who are so stubborn about their religion that they won't listen to any reason, which is very frustrating. When you step back from religion you realise you don't have to explain away all the contradictions anymore, you can just see them as they are.
I think another angle you can look at this song from is as a protest, a protest against not being free to speak out against religion. I mean, people are encouraged to preach for their religion, but it's still frowned upon by society to speak against religion. Which begs the question of why aren't they comfortable to take criticisim? is it because they think their arguments will fall down if people are allowed to speak against them?
I know I've gone quite far off topic, but for an atheist i do feel quite passionately about religion. Sorry guys lol |

It's just eerie and beautiful. And her voice is amazing, it's not all smooth and pure, it's like she's cracking from her grief. |

although I know this is a cover, this is the only version i know.
I think its possible to interpret this song in many different ways.
Personally, I think its about someone who relies fully on jesus and trusts that jesus will help them and save them, but their friend is saying to them that he should put his faith in his friends cause theyre the ones that are really there for him.
So basicly, he's saying that sometimes you have to put you're faith in other people, and trust in whats real, ya know? |

I like this song, but only because it's the Smiths. If I'd only heard the Mark Ronson version I would probably have quite liked it, but compared to Morrissey he has no originality, sorry, but its true. |

| Damien Rice – Prague Lyrics

I thought it was about like a couple fleeing Nazi Germany to Prague. And "him" is Hitler. Maybe they're a Jewish couple and the "all dressed up" is referring to the Star of David they have to wear. Or maybe its a metaphor for how they've been preparing to leave and now they're ready.
Or maybe she doesn't want to leave, or doesn't want to leave yet, and he's wondering if he should wait for her. |

Its about religion, and how religion tells you that if you do all this stuff then God will be happy and you will be happy, but really what religion does is stick you in a jar and make you think youre happy when youre actually trapped. And "You'll wallow in his shit" is about how Earth is such a shit-hole we've been sent to live in by God and yet people still think they need to make him happy.
I don't know what the "laundry room" bit is, but maybe its how we think God loves us but actually we're only a small bit of him, like the laundry room is only a small bit of the house, and not a bit you would particularly love. its like saying god only deals with us because he has to, like a chore, and he doesit as little as possible.
PHEW! how wierd was that? really got into it lol sorryif it sounds like shit |

I think it's saying- "Yeah I loved you, but you screwed me over, and so I left, and it's too late to call me back now."
The "Don't think twice, it's all right" is a great line. I think it's sarcastic, it's like saying "you scrwed me over without even thinking about it, but it doesn't matter anymore so don't worry about it." |

only 2 comments? what a shame. I like this song. I think it's more about the Church then the government though- "Of the people who would keep us on our knees".
But overall it's saying that even if someone did come along who did know the truth then he would be condemned for it (kind of like Jesus himself, how ironic, when its the Church doing the condemning in the song). |

Dinosaur Jr. rule, I only started listening to them about a week ago and they're one of my favourite bands already, and this is probably my favourite song by them.
I'm not exactly sure what its about, but i think having someone die would fit pretty well.
When he says: "I feel ok
Sure, I know that's not what people say"
Thats very true, because often when people have people they love die, its such a shock they don't feel bad at all at first, its a while after that they really feel it, even if people expect them to feel bad straight away. |

iv only heard this song once but i really liked it.
I dunno which spellin of Aryan/ Ariane is correct, but if its the 1st (and im disgusted to make the same point as Retirbution here, i disagree very strongly with u) but anyway yeh then "Proud Aryan"s about ppl under Hitler being proud to be "pure german", so maybe its like, people being proud for the wrong reasons. I dunno i mean, this might not fit in with the rest of the song at all, but its just what I observed.
Oh yeah and Retribution? whats your problem? why do you have to go and turn a forum about a song into a forum about race hate? if you wanna hate the jews dont do it here |

im not sure but is this song anything 2 do with the film unforgiven? thats about a tired, old, bitter man whos forced to battle his whole life in a battle he cant win. and wen he says "What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown" tht also links with the film how hes forced 2 b a cold killer and has 2 push down wht he feels, his guilt and regret |

This song is definately about the holocaust. Thers been lots of stuff dun about the holocaust but to here 1 of my favourite bands do it was very meaningful. Its cleverly written, I didnt realise at first wht it was about bt wen i realised it meant so much mor 2 me, and it was one of my favourite songs b4 tht. I think Nickelback is makin a very good point, and we cant afford to 4get these crimes, or else they mite happen again. |
