| The Mountain Goats – Going to Lebanon Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
ahhh i'm going to lebanon soon and this is the FIRST song i will listen to when i get on the plane. idk if this is even actually about lebanon, but...i always link this to all the wars that have been fought there... i always feel like this is about the narrator watching his love being shot/killed in front of him. - cedars are lebanons national tree (its their flag) - 'i heard the city call/they can go on burning' could be beirut or some city being bombed...and then ppl sitting safe in the trees in the mountains above - 'i heard you say my name twice through your teeth/i saw you coming down to me/its been coming for some time' i always picture someone running to safety but then something happening, and their sash blowing away. well...yeah. i discovered this song while reading a book about the civil war there (although im a huge mg fan)...and im showing my nerdiness do ill stop now : ) |

i love this band and the fact that they reference Dharamsala, the most kickin' town in India by far. It's quite a climb. Rhapsody describes these guys as "imagine if Paul Simon had a World Studies-majoring love child with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah." which is so great. although they have more hooks than cyhsy |

| Sufjan Stevens – Sister Winter Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
this song is very indicative of the transition sufjan ha been undergoing with his new material. it's not comparable to seven swans or illinois and much as it is to the newer songs he's been coming out with like jupiter, bad june and barn owl, night killer. falsetto chorus? check. lots of string parts? check. piano as opposed to guitar/banjo? checkcheck. personally, i like anything he does, so a change is always welcomed. merry christmas everybody! |

her voice is PERFECT on this song. so eerie. the song itself possesses a stillness that must have emanated through the city the day after the flood. bridget, i agree with your comment. 'who drew the line' is a great open ended question, which in turn raises even more questions. |

| Iron & Wine – Promise What You Will Lyrics | 18 years ago |

this always makes me sigh. i think theres something to be said that they're on top of this mountain that has weathered thousands of years, and theyre about to embark on this beautiful but tragically fleeting relationship in face of such eternity. time will take it all and it will, you see. |

| Regina Spektor – That Time Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| and also, she did this song tonight at her show in northampton, and it was more folky and stripped down and freakin ADORABLE! | |
| Regina Spektor – That Time Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this song reminds me of nyc/nj, which is where i've grown up. i feel like it applies to so many of my friends who are living there, being trendy, being poor, doing drugs and fucking up in any and every way. god, theres something amazing about it all. it blows my mind. | |
| Vienna Teng – Harbor Lyrics | 18 years ago |

this song is absolutely beautiful. my (womens) a cappella group just decided to arrange it, which should be a challenge. as my friend said - she's vanessa carlton, but 'right' and not cheesy. |

| Regina Spektor – Your Honor Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
regina's a smarty - i like that when she's talking about the subject matter (being sinful, fighting) there's crashing/fighting guitars and drums in the background. but then when the scene lyrically pulls back to the present situation of treating the dude, it suddenly becomes tender and accompanied by the piano. this is such a great 'deal with it' song. i really love the way she says 'blood' in the beginning. she was supposed to play at my college and then the idiots invited hellogoodbye instead. WHY, MOUNT HOLYOKE, WHY??? |

i'm surprised there aren't more comments on this song. i had a heard a few bss songs before, but this was the one that made me fall in love with their music. i just love the title...because sometimes love can really be like a mathematical equation. and sometimes those equations can be solved, like nicexdream said, through trial and error. but the great thing is that there is always MORE to be discovered, new equations to decipher... hah. oh snap. |

| Beck – Already Dead Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
beautiful song. i remember sitting on my couch last year watching beirut (a city very near and dear to my heart) being bombed, and then listening to this song and just being overwhelmed. its applicable in so many situations - the hallmark of a great song! the statement that "it feels like i'm watching something die" is genius - simple language but complex emotions. |
